went down the rabbit hole of searching up their stuff on YouTube; came across a live gig from The National Stadium in the 70s.
Hocus Pocus is some piece of music

Great band! I think I have all their stuff on vinyl at this stage. I've not seen the National Stadium gig, must look it up.

If you're looking for some 70s prog/prog-adjacent recommendations outside of the usual, check out Fruup (especially Future Legends) from Belfast and Frumpy (especially Frumpy 2, fucking class altogether) from Germany.

I have a Frupp Best of CD,thanks for the recommendation on the German band

Limbonic Art-Moon in the Scorpio. Remember listening to the album around the turn of the millennium and it did nothing for me. Suffice to say my opinion changed completely when I listened again on the strength of a Youtube reccommendation this afternoon. It's absolutely brilliant. Is the rest of their discography anywhere near as good?

I just listened to a new Crowbar song on YouTube. It's really good.

Listened to the new Binah and Runemagick albums online overnight and promptly ordered the pair of them. Early hit for the wages but these two are quality and need picking up.
Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

Mooncitadel - Night's Scarlet Symphonies
Reflection - The Battles I Have Won
Thou Art Lord - Apollyon
Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast
Dio - Holy Diver
Hooded Menace - Lachrymose Monuments of Obscuration
Old Forest - Graveside

Head Of David – The Saveana Mixes

Almost like a heavy Joy Division in parts
Early Godflesh obviously

Great EP

Thanks for the link. Ah, I didn't realise there was a best of. They've reprinted all the albums on CD, and I think just Future Legends on vinyl, seemingly in response to the huge number of plays of FL on a YouTube channel for forgotten prog. You can't go wrong with that second Frumpy album IMO. My German father-in-law is a big fan, and he lived through the wave of prog and cosmic rock bands (Guru Guru even played at his secondary school—how mad is that?).

I watched the Lankum video for their cover of Ghost Town by The Specials. I was thinking, this is very interesting. It's is indeed very interesting. But good? I don't know. It feels very clever and it's well put together and the video looks nice, but it just ends up being interesting without being terribly exciting. It's like they are trying too hard to be cutting edge when, in my irrelevant opinion, they are at their strongest when they simply write beautiful modern folk songs. I'm sure it'll do well for them, and I wish them all the best, but I find myself struggling more and more to connect with anything they put out.

I felt similar, very interesting and artistic piece but would I reach for it over the more stripped back folk tunes? Im not sure. Ill have to give it a few more listens as it may be a grower like some of their other recent tunes.

Lorn - Arrayed Claws has been on repeat for me for the past few days. Sick record imo, its hard to stand out amongst alot of black metal but they way they accentuate and emphasise the phrasing in their guitar riffs is very unique.

I agree on the Lankum front. Very experimental and interesting which is what the point was as it's a one off tune/video, from what I gather, but no replay value for me.

I find that's the case with a lot of their more recent stuff. It's too clever, and lacks the heart and soul of folk.
