Aspid's one album is something else, go for that first.

Any other bands from that early post Soviet time worth checking out? I was thinking it must have been a pretty fruitful place with having more freedom to experiment after the fall of communism

There's a website called 'Classic Thrash' which lists a huge amount of 80s/90s releases from different artists (and all the usual suspects), there might be something else from Russia there.

Metallica - ...AJFA (yet another "with bass" version, but a good one at that)

Soundgarden - King Animal

A better ending note than Down On The Upside would have been.

Nah, all shite bar Bones of Birds.

Been listening to lots of Kvelertak's s/t. Had it in my head that they were of a similar piss-weak sound to Baroness, but nope, good sauce.

Crypts of wallachia - Drifting in the Devils maze

Saw this pop up. Some lovely death metal by an as-of-yet unnamed band being released by Terratvr Possessions sometime next year.

Witchbones  - We haunt ourselves / Akasha the lost demos

Bathory- s/t

Are these the new unofficial Bathory rereleases by any chance? Supposedly mastered from the original vinyl.
I grew up with whatever readily available cd version there was, would be interested in getting them if they were any use.

Yep that's them.  I got them from Invictus and the sound is great as far as I can make out.

Must get my hands on Under the sign.. at least.

As for todays walk to work... Nothing like 'Watching from a Distance' to get you motivated for the day ahead.

Gone down a bit of a rabbit hole of black/atmospheric whatever the fuck you wanna label it stuff like this the past few days.

Pity about that horrific overbearing hi hat, but it doesn't manage to completely kill the vibe

Fayrce doomy evening here.

Decomposed- The Funeral Obsession
Anthropomancy- Demo MCMXCIII
Svartsyn- Aandens Melankoli

Picked up a lovely ltd edition repressing of Leviathan a few days ago, gave it two full listens today. I'll never get sick of this album!

Also:
Yes - Relayer
King Crimson - Discipline
Camel - Mirage

A full on prog week of glory!

Gorefest - False
Dissection  -Storm of the lights Bane.
Rammstein - Rosenrot.
