Depeche Mode - Violator, Black Celebration

Ah now there is something we can agree on. Two wonderful albums. Might have to lash on Black Celebration myself now thinking about it

I've always been curious about the popularity of certain bands/artists to folks into metal. I've met bunch of people deep into metal that are into Depeche Mode. Ditto Dead Can Dance and Bauhaus (and Bella Lugosi's Dead seems to be a frequently covered song). Exchanged the 'metal nod' at a Tori Amos gig once with someone in a Slayer t-shirt (I was wearing a Nile tee).

I was into Depeche Mode for as long as I was ever into metal. I get exactly what you mean though. Like it wasn't really great to be saying I liked A-Ha but no bother with DM. I have liked the 80s pop as long as the metal in general though. Since the 80s if one counts Appetite for Destruction as metal. have noticed Dead can Dance mentioned in metal circles over the years as well as Bauhaus, but I never liked either. Is it the generally minor key nature of these bands? Is it that they are compositionally similar to metal or something like that maybe?

My own thinking there would be the cross pollination between genres that was prevalent in the 80s and early 90s. That, and the different distinct musical subcultures of the era sharing their favourites between friends.
The 'older sibling' factor has to count for something too. Plus,  in Dublin, The Tower (goth, industrial club) was just around the corner from Fibbers.

I don't recall the tower- can you give a quick rundown? I remember Dominion...

That's it

The Tower was above McGraths on O'Connell Street in the late 90s. You went in the side door and it was two or three floors up. I think Dominion came later, and at various times was in the basement and the floor below where the Tower was.
Not to be confused with Isoldes Tower in Temple Bar, which was more like last call for desperadoes hoping to lob the gob at the end of the night
Back on topic Possession - Exorkizein at the moment. Love this bands vibe.

Tsjuder - Desert Northern Hell

Tsjuder - Desert Northern Hell

that was a corker back when it came out. I wonder if it still has that Norwegian groove/swagger

Witches Hammer - Damnation Is My Salvation

Wouldn't generally go for albums in the speed metal/blackened thrash end of things but this is just great

I love the artwork on that.  Must give it a spin even though speed metal/ black thrash isn't something I often go in for either.

There's a good amount of variety to the tracks and riffs throughout that keeps the album from falling flat after the first few songs, which I find usually happens for me with this style. The vocals are class too

Listened to some Virgin Steele today, first time in years and I'm confused as to why I haven't been listening to them religiously for forever. Invictus and Noble Savage...metal class!

Emperor - Anthems
Bolt Thrower - For Victory
Portrait - Crossroads
Plus a selection of Morricone scattered throughout the day.

Man with the harmonica and title music from the Mission, unbeatable.
