Nortt - Endeligt 9/10
Album of the week here , the dark ambient, funerary drone of this Danish ghoul's fourth album, it's ghostly hypnotic cadences as somber as the grave...beautiful record.

Tokyo Blade - Hoist The Colours High 8/10
Latest in a string of superb releases from the Blade, effortlessly reeling off another volumous set of high energy, life affirming Hard Rock /NWOBHM with a dash of American sass ala Motley Crue, long may their Indian Summer continue. Lizzy fans will raise eyebrows at the lick on the second track here though. Naughty.

Tool -Aenima  8/10
Not a big fan of the band, particularly of the vocals but enjoyed this on headphones this week, really opened out the lyrics that I never paid attention to before. Also went and looked up the source of that Nazi sounding rant. A recipe for edible marijuana cakes eh?. That changes the vibe somewhat!

Eternal Champion - Friend Of War 8/10
Hearing Eternal Champion go full on trance inducing synth ala Filosofem on the back end of this cool little EP was certainly one of the most surprising moves of the year. I'd imagine it'll be back to their usual fare for the next full length though. Not a bad thing either.

Iron Kobra - Eternal Dagger 7.5/10
Eleven years since the German traditionalists last album, they come back now on Dying Victims, a suitable home for their classic style and heroic homages to all things Eighties. Lacking a touch of evil like most of these retro bands though.

Sabre Wulf - Mala Suerte 6/10
Texan boys pounding out some big dumb Swe-D-Beats and misappropriating  some REM lyrics on the one gothy sounding outlier track.  Not a bad listen while doing the household chores.

Schammasch - Contradiction. Giving these lads a listen on the strength of thread on them. Excellent stuff. I don't know why but I was expecting something in the vein of Behemoth, I'm glad that's not the case! I'll definitely work my way through their back catalogue.

Cannot wait for the new Gorguts album. It's supposed to be out late this year or early next year

Strange, Behemoth immediately sprang to mind when I first heard Schammasch (Triangle).

Cannibal Corpse: Gallery of Suicide.
(og CD)

1998 , saw them live around this time.

It would have a big shout as my favourite C.C. album if Butchered and Eaten and Tomb didn't exist.

Testament - The Gathering
Not overly familiar with the Skolnick-absent material, so it took a bit of getting used to not hearing his solos on each track. Not bad, I wouldn't rate it over early Teatament, but I'll check back in again at some point.

Obituary - Dying of Everything
Not overly familiar with anything outside of the first 3 albums, seems to be a higher pitch in the vocals here. Couple of good moments in there.

Archspire - Too Fast to Die
Don't listen to a lot of tech death, this stuff sounds nuts! Can they really replicate this live? Youtube comments seems to think so anyway.

Inferi - Heaven Wept
Came on random after listening to Archspire. More techy sounding stuff but maybe not as extreme

Testament - The Gathering is immense, they really ramped up the aggression there, looking back over their career I'd say it's a Testament favourite for me, definitely take it over the the later releases.
