Drudkh - Microcosmos 8.5/10
A cool autumnal feel to the evening air brings out this indefatigable Ukrainian act, their fourth album here expanding somewhat on their heavily Burzimic leanings.

Apparition - Fear The Apparition 8/10
With Spanish Death Metal seriously underrepresented on my shelves this was a welcome pick up from 2023, impressive debut in the vein of early Death and Pestilence.

Hexorcist - Crucificial Imprecations 8/10
Bestial Death Metal worshipping at the Altars of Madness, solos howling and wailing
throughout, another incendiary strike from Invictus .
 

Katavasia - Magnus Venator 7.5/10
From 2020 an album very much keeping with all the best traditions of Hellenic Black Metal, finally picked this up on vinyl as the artwork always appealed to me and credit to Floga the gatefold is just as pleasing on the eye upon opening.

Cruel Force - Haneda 7/10
Much as I like the new C.F. (oops, can C.F. be anyone but Frost, what say ye Gods?) I can't seem to get it past a good 70% in my mind and there's a nagging feeling that all three of their previous efforts had more grit and bite to them.

Corpssessed - Impetus of Death 6/10
Pulled this out for a refresh on the back of a recent 40% drubbing on the Archives. Tough audience. Yes some of these tracks do slip by without inflicting much damage but the crushingly heavy tones and pervading sense of foreboding keeps it safely above average for me.

Never heard of Scattered Remnants. That's absolutely savage. Bonus points for having a song called 'Vaginal Vomit'.

Yeah the demo was a youtube suggestion, vaguely recognised it from having a copy towards the end of my tape trading career (see also the equally also ran likes of Torture Krypt, Sodomized, Headrot, Vermin, Deranged etc..), stuck it on and was pleasantly surprised enough to check the EP out. Nice mix between the start of the Suffocation/Pyrexia inspired "broootal" tri state thing and ,y'know, actual death metal

If you're in the mood for something not too far off from that era of US death metal, I'd seek out Ad Nauseam's "Another Horror of Life" demo. Lethal.

Secondly, that Emptiness mention had me find Nothing but the Whole LP. I had seen that killer cover loads of times in lists and it disappeared into the ether.

Om- Advaitic Songs. Never listened to these dudes before as I haven't been much drawn to drone drone over the years. Lately I find myself interested. This album is not at all what I expected it to be,  and I'm getting a lot out of it.

I like a few of Om's albums but find I could take them fairly interchangeably and I need to be in the form for them, but when that happens they stay in rotation for an age.

spinning kings of metal and specifically blood of the kings after a day n the beer and remembering how good that ross the boss lopez gig was - we saw them play bloodstock a few years later pre covid and kk downing joined them and played some priest ..seems like something we dreamt up to be honest looking back
