The Lone Wanderer is much better and more varied, give that a go if you haven't already.

Quote from: Eoin McLove on April 03, 2026, 01:23:14 PMWhen I see the words funeral doom or doom death preceded by the word crushing these days, I can barely muster the enthusiasm to hit play. It all sounds the fucking same. Crushing and boring.

You're not wrong. I liked that one and it went down well but how often I'll go back to it I don't know. As Jward said above it was like they just played the same song over and over, with little variation. But it suited the mood earlier.

After reading the Geezer Butler autobiography I wanted to give those albums another chance hut it's still fairiy crap, standard '80s hard rock.

Funeral Doom can be lethal but you definitely have to be in the form for it.  I find it a genre where I am less likely to be won over by a band on it if I throw it on any time but when I am in the mood for that sort of stuff then a lot of it does the trick.

Quote from: Carnage on April 03, 2026, 12:06:38 PMIt's decent but fairly one note. I know that's a ridiculous thing to say about funeral doom, which is repetitious anyway, but it doesn't really go anywhere. It's enjoyable all the same.

NP: Lone Wanderer: Exiquiae

German funeral doom this time.

Pretty good tack

Way better dynamics

I fell asleep for a bit of it though

Black Magick SS - scarlet desires

More tunes in the vein of the previous two albums. Great oul fun.
On Spotify now as well.

Is it that you don't consider it Black Sabbath? 🤔

Correct. Because it isn't.

Last week

Terrorizer - World Downfall
Blind Guardian - Follow the Blind
...And Oceans - As In Gardens so in Tombs

Judas Priest - Painkiller

Second listen on loop. This album is to me what crack is to Super Hans: really moreish  :abbath:

Has there ever been an established band with such a leap in quality from the album which preceded it? Ram It Down is, at best, shit. Painkiller is a fucking tour de force. I remember picking it up in Freak Out and the first listen on the bus home, fucking blown away. Listening to it now, still a killer... backwards or forwards 😂

Testament... Demonic is their biggest and, in my opinion, only real turd.
But it's sandwiched between Low and The Gathering, two of their absolute best.

Judas Priest - British Steel 9/10
1980, the dawn of Heavy Metal, modern, bristling, bone crunching Heavy Metal, leather and studs replace flares and sideburns and Priest were right at the the helm with this one. If only a format would come along where we could quickly skip 'United', or the chorus at least...

Skeletal Remains - Fragments of The Ageless 8.5/10
Most recent one ('24) from the Californians, I'm very partial to their frenetic brand of pulverizing, surgically precise Death Metal.

Spectral Voice - Sparagmos 8/10
Slight preference for the debut but still a desolate, sinister labyrinth of an album to immerse in.

Isole - Throne Of Void 7/10
Second album from the sorrowful Swedes, twice, on a bleak, grey Thursday afternoon. Melancholia maximus.

Horrendous - Anareta 7/10
Third album of progressive Death Metal from the Americams, docked a full point for that burst of indie art rock sunshine at the end of Acolytes. They're a bit too prone to these little flourishes of nice melodies for my liking.

Blizzen - Metalectric 6/10
New one from the German Trad Metallers featuring members of Vulture. This stuff is more in tune with the likes of Enforcer, a nice bit of chewing gum for the ears. Metaphor Dougal, metaphor.

Agreed. The Gathering is a monster.

Amazing album , 'Live Insurrection' also :abbath:

Witchcraft - A Sinner's Child (new EP just released recently)
