That live album destroyed the memories of their gigs. Terrible terrible shite.
Today. Over the under and it's still superb.
Cannibal Corpse- A skeletal domain. That modern guitar sound is very sterile but it's still a good album.
At some point later I I'm going to listen to Ascended Dead- Abhorrent Manifestation. I heard a bit of this last night. Hopes are high!

Another one here declaring for Nola and declaring myself out when it comes to the other albums.

Ministry - Filth Pig for me today. Fucking fantastic album that I feel never got the recognition it deserved.

I'll always like NOLA but I could never get into the later albums.  There's a few good songs here and there but they don't do the trick for me overall.

On topic - listened to Gaahl's Wyrd "Gastir - Ghosts Invited" yesterday the whole way through, having only heard a song or two off it the week before.  The album is class, inventive stuff without being outlandish.

Currently listening to Psychic Graveyard - "A Bluebird Vacation", also fairly savage.  Noise rock, in the vein of more recent Daughters but slower, more industrial, barely a hint of guitar on it, electronics and drums and horror mainly.  A great find
Great find indeed. I've been rawkin owt to that this afternoon. Cheers lawd...  :abbath:

Top stuff - has a real grimy feel about it. Their later stuff after can be hit and miss - I like the  GWBush era trilogy they came out with, but I'd say those're a bit dated now (as anything becomes dated when dealing with a specific period in time). Animositisomina was good stuff also.

All the Down albums are great but NOLA is just one of those special albums were every song is as good as the next.

Been listening to a lot of NOLA this past week.

And a lot of Sumac too.

I've never listened to the EPs, but the three albums are pretty similar in that they all have some great songs but also uckload of filler (NOLA very much included - in fact due to its reputation I think it's a massively overrated album).

Down have always been one of those bands that gained popularity due to who's in the band and not the quality of their material.

I've always thought that myself, but figured it was just me.

Where's the filler on 'NOLA'?

Ah no jaysus there isn't a minute of filler on Nola but everything else is composed entirely of filler

Long, long time since I've listened to it but Stone the Crow was a highlight but I remember less than a handful of other tracks that really did it for me.

I would recommend giving it another go, but then beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

This might be controversial but I think the best tune on it is Jail. In all of it's Planet Caravan ripping glory

Edit: I genuinely thought I was in the controversial thread

Now playing: Godflesh - Grind Madness at the BBC. They piss on you all

Yeah, always thought there was a lot of fluff around Down for just a handful of good songs and a whole lot of mundane material. I could never understand the fervour around them.

I agree except for Nola. The rest of it is pure shit with the exception of none of it. If ever there was a band that should have left it the fuck alone it is them

I can imagine it being a summer evening out the back with a few bottles type album, so I will indeed give it another whirl.
