Been spinning that Obsidian Tongue too , a turn of the year decision to blind buy anything from Profound Lore this year has delivered some real gems.

I only bought it due to your mini review.  Sounds like something I would like and I'm a sucker for new music.  Only listened to it once so far, so needs more listens.   Initial view is positive.

Jesus it's good, I shouldn't need his death as a reason to put it on.

Coheed And Cambria: Good Apollo IV Volume One:  From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness

The Best Of Siouxsie And The Banshees

Cobalt - Gin is a brilliant album

They played Roadburn in 2017
Singer at the time was the fella from Lord Mantis
Good stage presence

I enjoyed them, but they come across better on their recordings

Tribulation - The Children Of The Night 9/10
Rarely does a band shake of their Death Metal shackles and take on such Goth Rock influences and still manage to retain my ears but when it's done this damn good, well, you'd almost consider attaining a nice velveteen cloak and some tight leather strides. Almost.

Innumerable Forms - Philosophical Collapse 8/10
With a new album imminent I pulled this second one from Innumerable Forms of the shelves for one more trip through their harrowingly bleak Death/Doom delirium. Heavy as a herd of pregnant elephants this.

Sijjin -Sumerian Promises 8/10
The new one has been getting plenty of spins this year so I went back to the debut which,in essence,  is  the sound Necros Christos re-writing Altars of Madness compared to the newer ,thrashier style. And both rule  :abbath:

Guts - Nightmare Fuel 5.5/10
From earlier this year, second album from the succinctly named Finns offers some heavy, grooving, chugging Death Metal tunes but amidst a slew of killer DM releases in 2025 so far, this will struggle for stereo time

Tankard - Two-Faced 5/10
Bar a couple of tracks this was very average from the German boozehounds as they seemingly went alcohol-free for this one in 1994, certainly in terms of lyrics anyway but even aside from that there's a more considered, more seemingly mature side of the band on show here that really doesn't sit well. Get a round in boys.

Enslaved - In Times 5/10
Not so much average this time, rather only about half of this material is anything approaching my taste, the rest, the soft clean vocals and maudlin meanderings feels like I've stumbled into some bird's afternoon yoga class.
Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

Forest (rus) - the third album. Can't remember off the top of my head what the English title is. Not as good as the first two ( which I feel have more of a Dagorath influence, but not entirely sure, there was a falling out between the two main members and reliable info is hard to come by) but still classic blazebirth hall gear as are all first four Forest albums.

Gnipahalan/Evilfeast - split Cd. The former is a lad with a thousand black metal bands. I can't keep up with that so I'm out before I'm even in. I love Evilfeast. This is the last thing he has released. Last full album 2017. Hopefully one last hurrah in the tank but I fear life must have caught up and an excellent discography is at a close.

Woddrea Mylenstede - demo. Completely demented and near unlistenable raw BM on Legion Blotan. Another label I used to follow but have lost track whats what these days.17544286348399099648119273129850.jpg

I have yet to crack the BBH bands. Every so often I try something from Forest or Branikald usually, but nothing has really grabbed me yet. I'm half tempted to pick up something based solely on the effective artwork, but then I stick it on and it goes in one ear and it the other.

If you are new to Blazebirth the best things to check out are the 5th Forest (all Kaldrad), last Branikald and last Nitberg album. All 3 of those have the best production. The earlier stuff is better but it will take a while to get use to the sound. All BBH is great no bad releases.

As for Dagorath he was part of the first four Forest albums it was only the last one I mentioned above that he had no involvement with.

Ropey production is not much of an issue with me. It was more a case that the riffs never quite caught me. But I'll continue to dive in from time to time.

Gridlink - Perfect Amber
Takafumi Matsubara - Strange, Beautiful and Fast
Retortion Terror - Retortion Terror

I don't listen to much grindcore these days, but the new Gridlink remix of Amber Grey and Orphan reminded me what a fucking beast Takafumi Matsubara is. His solo album from 2019 which he made with a rake of other musicians is ferocious. Alan Dubin even makes an appearance.
