ELEND - SUNWAR THE DEAD CD
Always liked 'Winds Devouring Men' as background music while reading so finally picked up another Elend. This one feels more structureless , ethereal , yet even more austere. Like a soundtrack to what I imagine East Germany must have been like after WWII. Not that I do that a lot.. Think I still prefer WDM though.

VARATHRON - GLORIFICATION UNDER THE LATIN MOON CD
This hit the spot nicely this week, a bit of gig nostalgia probably  but it's a storming setlist and an overall aura that strangely reminds me of that old Tiamat live ep. Love the booklet too, little notes and flags of the South American countries visited. Very pleased with this buy actually so I'm gonna go 8/10

WOMBBATH - CHOIRS OF THE FALLEN LP ( Brown vinyl)
Standard issue Swedeath, enjoyable enough , definitely unfortunate to have arrived while Clandestine is still hanging around the turntable. Having said that it's a good kick in the ass after the Elend wallowing .

HEATHEN - EMPIRE OF THE BLIND CD
Disappointing after the previous effort, not much grabbing me here at all . Every bit as uninspired as the title suggests.  5/10

TERMINAL NATION - HOLOCENE EXTINCTION LP
Took a bit of a punt on this one and been rewarded in spades,  Dismember riffs with Barney Greenway style vox.
"You wouldn't know oppression if it nailed you to the fucking cross." Lyric of the year      7.5/10

ATRAMENTUS- STYGIAN CD
Funereal doom akin to Evoken or Skepticism , only not as good to these ears , gave up on the ludicrous lyrical concept after a few lines, completely superfluous for this type of music. Fine artwork though, really wanted to go vinyl but this ain't music I want to be getting up to flip sides on.  6/10

I had great hopes for that Atramentus album but it was missing something, played it a few times on Spotify but could never get into it.
