Christ, I have no concept of time or aging these days...didn't realize Hackman was that old and, to be fair, having just seen a recent picture of him, he looked every day of his 95 years. I still think of everything post late 90s to be "recent enough" so I prob had an image of him in my head being younger than he actually was.

I was only talking about The French Connection with the missus over the weekend, but we ended up choosing The Substance instead.

Sorry Gene. I'll watch it this weekend.

His scene with in the jailhouse with Richard Harris in Unforgiven is one of my all time favourite scenes.

What a brilliant actor he was. The French connection car chase is where i first saw him. He was great in Unforgiven but I really liked him on Mississipi Burning. And his comic turn in the royal tenenbaums was really good.

He was brilliant in Get Shorty, which similarly I see as not that long ago.

The back and forth between Hackman and Defoe, and Hackman and the klan lads in Mississippi Burning is great stuff. He was fantastic in pretty much everything to be fair.

Aye. Two quality actors at the top of their game.

Hackman and Dafoe carry that movie, anyone else and it'd be just "the Feds absolutely loved civil rights" shite.

My favorite Hackman movie is The Conversation tied with his cameo in Young Frankenstein.

I was picturing The Conversation as a completely different movie, where 2 guys sit at a diner booth for the duration, The Conversation is great. Def worth a rewatch.

That's the one 😄 Mass confusion.

Never even heard of either of those. The chance of them playing any of his good films on the telly over here are nil. Last night to commemorate him they put on... The Birdcage  fuck me...

It's a great film though!

I haven't seen it since the 90s but there are many others on his CV I would rather see on d'telly. But sure, it's endless rainbow flags and mardi gras on telly in Oz just in case you forget to BE KIND! Insufferable shite.

So many streaming sites, Andy. There's no real excuse
