Blind was my intro to these guys, its a masterpiece and their peak for me. Reeds drumming is so great - it makes the album. Deliverance was also excellent, but i lost touch with them after that til AVD came out and that had a few great songs on it but since then it's been pretty bland for me (and thats 20yrs now, christ...)

I and many other old farts have been bangin' on about Somewhere in Time forever
its always been my favorite, since i first started listening to them when SIT was only a couple of years old. Its great to see that so many others have picked up on its brilliance after so many years. Its the album I have purchased physical copies of more than any other album cost I kept (literally) wearing them out.
7th Son is also perfect - as is Peace of Mind. Hard to separate any of those 80's albums really. The level of quality they maintained up til 7th son year after year was just staggering, especially given the constant touring.
But SIT has Adrian's writing and solos at its core and that makes it stand out for me - the solos on Stranger and Caught Somewhere in Time are some of the finest things he ever wrote and to see them live over the last few years was just amazing.

I enjoyed it anyway... the mid section is very Persistence of Time which is no bad thing. Good energy to it for a bunch of 60yr olds.

I loved Down on the Upside when it came out - but it was always going to be a let down after Superunknown which was one of the finest collection of songs, start to finish, that any band ever put out. Amazing that they topped Badmotorfinger in such style. DOTU took a while took a while to get into... but i never listen to Soundgarden these days - after he died I just couldn't listen, and maybe i still cant. King Animal was unnecessary - it just wasn't up to par and I haven't heard it since they played in Dublin.
I guess there's a difference between a "comeback album" and a "return to form" album. Return to forms would be stuff like Violent Revolution, Brave new World, System has Failed.... As comebacks go though i think Alice in Chains did it better than anyone, that album is just perfect. I haven't listened to it in years, have a long flight today so i must put it on. Rainer For was also brilliant but the red one wasn't great, I hope they put out another one... that gig in the Olympia a few years ago was incredible - I'd waited a lifetime to see them.
Bruce Dickinson's Mandrake was also a great comeback (after 20yrs i think it qualifies as a comeback).
The Carcass comeback was great too, but the most recent one didn't stick with me.
At War With Reality was pretty decent too as comebacks go, but near impossible to follow up what came before it.
Reinkaos was an interesting comeback - it sounded like The Jester Race in a lot of ways. No blast beats etc... it was so different from the previous releases that it was hard to take - I think a lot of people were initially disappointed by it and didnt get it, myself included, but it grew on me over time, though I rarely listen to it now - but it's definitely a great comebackm if very different to the early pair of albums stylistically
Will we get a comeback Dismember album?
Will we get a comeback Emperor album? Nah.
Bolt Thrower is the comeback I want - but it'll never happen
Will we get a return to form Morbid Angel album? Not bloody likely looking at the basket case Trey sadly is these days
Will we get a proper Immortal comeback album?
I hear that Swedish band Sacrilege will have a comeback at some stage too.

Black Gives Way to Blue is certainly right up there, as is the Coroner and Monotheist. 3 absolute bangers.
Amorphis - Eclipse (a comeback of sorts after a few dull albums with a new singer)
Deicide - Stench of Redemption... not a comeback but you know what i mean
FNM - Sol Invictus
Both of the Hell albums (are they comebacks?!)
Brave new World - does that count?
Unanimated - Victory in Blood
Desultory - Counting our Scars

Ive had it on non stop since Friday, it's excellent I think. The other reunion albums never clicked with me. Putting aside the circumstances of this release - the music on it is great, fast, up-tempo throughout, and catchy. You can hear his voice was shot for sure, the poor guy. But its a great release regardless. If this came out in 98 or so I'd have been a very happy boy.

A band Ive never heard - whats their best album?
I checked out their PL cover of Enchantment (which is a perfect song) - decent if pretty identical version.

Enjoyed that - good tune and yer man has some voice as he'd be expected to. I was wondering who the ould lad (i.e. the ould lad not in the band) was too, gas.
Full album is out in May according to Andy, looking forward to that!
King clearly works at a snails pace so good on them for doing something in the meantime....

Nice to hear the song is a bit more up tempo, recent albums have been solid. But that artwork is comical.

PL have never been a great live band - that's nothing new since they started gigging in the early 90s. They've always had the songs though - they're very definitely an album/studio band. With songs as good as what they have that's good enough for me anyway. They're probably the band i've seen live the most going back to the early 90s and its always been like that. Fair play to them for always playing a few Irish gigs, they've always turned up. Great setlist this weekend here (same each night i think) and great to see Jeff back on drums, the Italian lad was good but just not the right guy. Great sound in Dolans last night, place was rammed. Support sounded good at what they do too. But anyone expecting an exciting, exuberant performance from a bunch of middle aged miserable Yorkshiremen playing goth/doom metal is attending the wrong gig

As much as I love these guys (a lot) they were never a great live band. Fantastic music and albums, but just not the world's most exciting live band. But I always go, probably the band i've seen live most maybe at this stage....
