Metal Discussion / Re: Heavy? Hold my pint

It's a strange one. Some of my friends/ work colleagues are into what I would call "tantrum metal", and they'll send me a link for an absolute dud from Lorna Shore or something and I just don't hear anything of what I would consider heavy. There's no danger, or malice or magic to it. Just the sonic equivalent of Tom and Jerry violence.

This is an example of what I would consider to be proper heavy. But in some circles it's old fashioned and twee.

I would have thought Nervosa were were bigger than Xentrix at this point. *Insert joke about not losing the keys for the bus again.

I guess you could say that up until now, he's had a Silent Scream.

I might be in the minority with this but I'm not a fan of Marc Osegueda's vocals and Kerry King's actually sound better here.

First track to be released from our new album.

I'll have more details on the album soon, but in the meantime, give this a spin.

Great comeback and everything since has been consistently as good

Fear Factory - Mechanize
I think from the non-Dino albums, Archetype is criminally underrated, and Transgression has a good album buried in there if they weren't rushed to release it, but Mechanize is definitely a throwback to earlier stuff. Shame it all imploded again soon after

A lot of filler on the COW albums I would argue, but I dare say Mechanize and the three albums that followed are all great. I think if any of them had been released right after Obsolete, Fear Factory would be a much bigger band now.

I suppose Tiamat would be one for me. Wildhoney is up there with the best of the best but after that I lost all interest.
I had an Entombed catch up recently and realised that I didn't miss anything essential.

On my third spin of Eternal Champion's Cowards Keep. A song that often gets stuck in my brain. Glorious riffage.

NeurIsis!

On my first spin and very much liking it. Nice to hear Turner doing his Sumac growls.

Metal Discussion / Re: Best/Worst Outputs

I was thinking about this today and the interesting thing I found with so many bands is that it's hard to pick the best album from a long standing band, as their golden era will likely have yielded a few contenders, but likewise, it's hard to pick the worst offender once things go to shit. In most cases it seems, when the magic is gone, it's really fucking gone.

I remember a live B side from one of the Black Album singles had Hetfield shouting "Captain Kirk!" right before the solo. It may have been Creeping Death.

Anyway, the prophecy has now been realised!
