Polished of Despise The Sun after that. About to stick on Atrocity Todessehnsucht while I hang out the clothes. Wonder if the neighbours will enjoy it?

This is a blast from the past
Dave 'Vortex' Vora was Venusian Death Cell.
His drum was a matress, at least on one of his many releases.
Probably the most prolific metal musician in Ireland at one time.

Metal Discussion / Re: Lar Fraser

I'm new to the forum and trawling back through the topics so sorry if I'm late to the party replying to dead topics.
Lar Fraser started a band (Death/Thrash) called Scourge in '99-00 which I believe initially included Brendan Roche (ex Mourning Beloveth) on bass. Philly White (Geasa) on guitar and Mark Higgins (Arcane Sun) on drums.
I was asked to replace Philly. Brendan left, Eric Fletcher joined and that line-up played live once at the TBMC in 2000.
Lar had an idea to change the band name to Amputheatre because we were going into a more brutal death metal direction. Me, Mark and Eric went out on our own then without Lar.
There is a video of the gig and numerous rehersals floating around the place somewhere.
Myself and Mark Higgins recorded an 8 track rehersal tape in Kilkeel in early '03. But nothing happened beyond that.
I met Lar when I worked in the Sound Cellar briefly one summer. He took me under his wing and introduced me to plenty of people including Mark Higgins who was a very close mate. I don't know how Lar put up with me. I was an intensely annoying little fucker who knew it all, and knew nothing haha.
Wild nights in Fontenoy St, his famous gaff. Remember being up until all hours with him and Steve Hughes the Aussie comedian, listening to Morbid Angel Formulas Fatal To The Flesh. Getting Mauri face paint (with permanent marker) done while asleep on the couch
I've a lot of respect for that lad. True to metal. Integrity is his middle name.
Other bands I was aware of that he was in aside from whatever else has been mentioned were: Vermithrax, First Blood and a rock/metal cover band out in one of the Spanish islands. He also tried out for some big British thrash outfit (80's) which I can't remember, when he lived in London.
Last time I caught up with him was around 2009. I'm sure he's out there doing his thing. He'd never give up playing I don't think.

Dublin Metal Events had some pictures online of Mark in action in the pit at one or two gigs back in the day. I have some floating around on a drive somewhere. I remember when MA came to Dublin, Jared Anderson was front man. Mark and H went and picked up Trey from some internet cafe where he'd been playing DOOM for fucken 12 hours or something. Mark was disgusted at that haha. This guitar legend playing DOOM for 12 hours instead of jamming all day.

Haha any time you hung about with him you'd have a story. Like the time he was teaching me to do Frank Mullen growls while we staggered down O'Connell St. A nice cop following us begging us to settle down while Mark climbed the Anna Livia howling. We got to Fibbers and he climbed the phone box and howled some more before a Paddy Wagon came and the guards dragged him down and took him to Store St. I ran to Store St just in time to see him wrestling two guards at the counter. A few months later I asked if anything came of it and he said "Aye bhoy, I was in court and the guard told the judge I was howlin' on top of the phone box. The whole court was laughin' at me bhoy'. He'd say that with a straight face too, I was on the floor laughing. Hilarious bloke altogether.

Was in a band with Mark back in the day in Dublin. Hadn't two words to say to me for the first few weeks we rehearsed.
Then I said the magic line "Have you ever heard Gorguts Considered Dead?", best mates after that.
RIP Mark Higgins. Miss you and love ya big man.
Marc.
