Metal Discussion / Re: Mastodon - New album

Bill was on HardLore today, great listen. Talks about the formation of the band, their mission with each album, Brent - how he was, his firing, his death, Nick Johns death, his journey into alternative music. Great listen.

My pre-order of the LP arrived today, fuck knows when it'll actually get listened to. Will fire up online tomorrow. Excited for it.

Outside of your big hitters (Primordial, MB, AI, Malthusian, etc.), I think the Sodb demo is probably my most returned to release. Absolutely sensational stuff.

I could hardly say that I keep coming back to it, but I have such a soft spot for Scavenger - Madness to Our Method. Probably the first Irish release I ever bought and I couldn't believe that a band like that existed in Ireland. I found the CD in my Mams a few years ago and it gets a blast in the car once or twice a year. Ethereal Journey sounds great to me this morning.

Some of the worst stage-diving I've ever seen.

Savage gig. Loved Ragana, would definitely be a bit less "lost" in a smaller venue, but thought they were class. CP were class - the Neil Jordan/Irish cinema history between-song banter was unique to say the least and they sounded amazing. Would love to be going tonight.

Haven't listened to Ragana until this week, very much to my liking - hope to get up in time to catch em.

Sure, but I'd also be willing to bet you've never seen Once or listened to a Frames album. Like I say, not front page news, but it was no secret either.

There's a lot of pretending from people that this hasn't been talked about all the time in the near 20 years since Once came out. Not to say it was national news, but at a minimum, it has always raised an eyebrow/had him condemned as a wrongun, and Googling that has always returned more scandal. His Wikipedia page talks about their age discrepancy like.

Fans of his have always chosen to turn a blind eye to it, I've always felt.

The lads were ahead of their time with their respect for OAC.

Man, Kavinsky was the soundtrack to bad house parties and worse drugs in 2011/2012 - great times.

I can't fathom the UK tour. Assuming they're all based in England already, there's not much travel involved for them, but somehow they've opted to book a Sunday to Thurs in December.

Mike Browning dead. Shocked to read that.

Obviously anecdotal, but the amount of times I saw Brent being really stroppy on-stage, unhappy with whatever, I can only imagine how much that was the case over the course of a tour.
