Metal Discussion / Re: Good band documentaries

Short documentary from norwegian tv of Fenriz talking about hiking and the outdoors, I really enjoyed this one as I've been getting into a bit of hiking recently myself and related to some of what he says in this.

I honestly think the less heavy metal is involved with stuff like the rock n roll hall of fame or the grammys, the better. It's just shite put on by and for the big established labels and media outlets that don't really care for metal anyway. It's not like it'll attract any potential young heads or anything like that either, I doubt anyone that ever got into metal gave a shite about the rock n roll hall of fame as young uns haha

Found these the other night, chaotic proto black metal-y stuff. Good shit and the LP is a measly 12 quid including the shipping to Ireland! Well worth checking out.

Some great stuff on Edged Circle like Reptilian and Inculter. Ordering Demoniac today, so will have to check this out while I'm at it, thanks.

Edit: couldn't recommend Reptilian enough. They opened Killtown in 2018 and were the best band of the weekend which is no small feat.

Fuck didn't realise Inculter was on that label, I shoulda had a look at what else was on there, still with that shipping price I'll order again.

So three of us bought it then? Lads from Sign of Evil are gonna reckon they're huge in Ireland all of a sudden  haha

More leaning towards heavy metal but came across this. Good fun.

Heavy Sentence rule! Was given the tape by a mate who say em live and I put it on pretty frequently

Metal Discussion / Re: Favourite live videos

I see the Combat Tour video was already mentioned here, that's a brilliant one. Pity the Venom stuff isn't actually live but it's brilliant to see Slayer and Exodus captured in their prime.
This is one of my other favourites, Sodom just after "Persecution Mania" was released, this is the best quality footage of them before they became a lot more americanised and less black metal sounding from Agent Orange onwards. The energy in it is unreal, seen Sodom a bunch but this show looks like something else altogether.

This ones worth a watch too, from the year before with a lot more material from "Obsessed by Cruelty". Big step down in video quality but if there was any point I could pick to see the band at it'd be here

In the same vein I was also big into the new albums from Occult Burial

Haven't heard the latter yet but OB was great. I loved their one before it so was glad they were able to provide again.

Yeah thought it was a savage follow up. While I'm posting that sorta stuff, these are another band I've been huge into the last while. Very Venom/ Hellhammer inspired stuff but with a good bit of focus on atmosphere and even some keys here and there.  Something a bit more interesting than the standard black/thrash fare so hoping they do more.

Listening to this at the moment, pretty killer black/ speed metal without ending up sounding like the Midnight style blackened motley crue type stuff lots of bands do. Reminds me a lot of Iron Angel or newer bands like Deathhammer. Nothing groundbreaking but worth a listen for sure!

Cool vocals

Yeah I'm a sucker for stuff in this style  where they mix in a few good highs and shrieks, no matter how crude they are, as opposed to strictly harsh vocals.

In the same vein I was also big into the new albums from Occult Burial and Euronymous that came out last year though they're both a bit less on the obscure end than these lads.

I feel like there's so much awful and hilarious stuff floating around in modern metal, especially on Napalm Records that picking that stuff is like shooting fish in a barrel. Here's some truly awful vintage metal though. Possibly the most brilliantly awful thing I've ever heard.

We need more Shocktopus threads, or the guy posing as Brush Shields, or remember that thread with Tom G Warrior's stalker on the old forum?

Fun times.

I never heard the Brush Shiels one, what was that about?

Also yeah I signed up to jump in on the Ireland Metalheads thread so that sort of bullshit definitely does help haha

I gotta say if I was in one of the bands on that lineup I wouldn't be in a mad rush to make a big song and dance about cancelling our appearance after letting this nonsense go on for the guts of a year. It's honestly embarassing that they were so desperate for a gig in a pub in Drogheda to ignore all the obvious warning signs that the whole thing is a mess. Especially for bands that have been gigging for years. I'd be much more inclined to quietly delete any mention of it from social media and pretend the whole thing never happened!
