Metal Discussion / Re: Malthusian

I am loving this injection of Malthusian appreciation; it has me listening back to it all.

Quote from: Eoin McLove on October 02, 2023, 10:56:46 PMThings look healthy and the new Malthusian piece I've heard was really fresh and exciting so more power to the bucks.

This has me very hyped.

No one asked but just to add to the favourite release conversation I have to say my personal favourite has always been Below the Hengiform. It has the "straight-for-the-jugular" DM aggression that the demo had but it sounds altogether more murky and sinister and is much denser composition-wise. The closing section of Slouching Equinox is pure stomach churning rot - love it. Not to mention BtH has probably my favourite Johnny King performance across all his projects - really moreish, effective drumming. Also, I think it is the best release in terms of marriage of music and cover art.

fucking hell, great to see them back. This sounds mental, even for them.

another savage tune. Just the right amount of twists and turns. Buzzing for the LP.

Anyone else playing Valheim? It's the newest Steam Early Access overnight sensation but I'm completely hooked. For anyone who hasn't heard about it it's an open-world survival/building/crafting/sandbox game with RPG elements and fun combat, all set in a Viking mythological setting.

Personally I never liked other survival/craft games such as Rust/DayZ and I never went near Minecraft but this is the ticket. The world is vast and beautiful (and procedurally generated for each server) and completely immersive. Really enjoying the building. There's an insane amount of content for an early access game and I've encountered more bugs in games that have been fully released. Great with mates but apparently just as good solo.

Ruins of Beverast - The Thule Grimoires

This came out of nowhere to me but enjoying it so far, as expected. Looking forward to delving into it further.

Been listening to Endless Pilgrimage and Odori Sepulcrorum by Grave Miasma a lot recently. Absolutely lethal releases. One of the few modern-ish death metal bands I still have time for. I think I saw on their FB that they had planned to record their next LP this summer? Anyone know if they got it done? Very exciting.

Sounds good though in my opinion they haven't topped the debut yet. Such a unique album. Though special mention goes to the instrumental track 'Necrotic Epiphanies' on the second album; a masterclass in riffs.

Grave Upheaval - Untitled 2

Great release. Was fairly overlooked I feel.  In contrast to the previous full length, this one really shows off their songwriting chops. Hypnotic churning riffage.

Sweven the album is indeed pure brilliance. Had a listen relatively recently and remembered how good it was. Interested to see what becomes of this new project.

The Ruins of Beverast - Rain Upon the Impure

Alex himself admitted he didn't have a clue what he was doing when recording/mixing this album, but it is perfectly suited. The combo of roomy, really distant drums with guitars mudded out t'fuck give such a sense of scale. It puts you right at the edge of the vast murky landscape depicted on the cover.
