My friend told me yesterday that his mate was out on Sunday and found 60 of our little magic friends.
I'll go out this weekend with my mate and have a quick scan around our usual local spots.

I was up on Slieve Foy (Co Louth) doing a half day mountain hike a couple of weeks ago and we seen plenty of normal mushrooms but none of our little magic friends.
Been hearing of findings down south, midlands, Antrim mountains and the north west.
Went out to two local fields this morning. Got around 60 and my friend got 30+.....
Not a bad stsrt to the mushie season.
I was out today in north tipp. fuck all doing. it's still very warm and dry. need to get out to some more exposed hills but great to hear others are finding a few. I'll keep ye posted if and when I have any luck. Also, I have been hearing of them sine mid august but only in very small amounts and near coastal areas where I presume it is colder and wetter.
Went out to a couple more places during the week. Still fuck all doing. How are the rest of ye getting on?

It's giving rain for Saturday so any of you who can make it out early Sunday morning do so because the morning after a wet day is the best time for picking.
It flogged rain here yesterday as predicted and lo and behold I scored 40 in around 30 minutes this afternoon. All fresh up as well not gone pale at all.

I got 50 yesterday evening in those fields I picked 10 days ago. I really should have went there on Sunday as planned though, because cattle were in the fields yesterday and I wonder how many they munched and trampled into the ground?
I also found a new field yesterday. I only found 3 in it but hopefully more will pop up in the coming weeks.
I got about 120 today, one hours picking.
My mate texted me this evening. Sent me a pic of a nice big bag of mushies he picked today on a mountain. He guesstimated about 700, not bad at all.
Lads, get out there. I went to my two local fields this evening after work. I got over 120, last year I was lucky to get 40 on a pick in these fields.
These mushies this evening were huge.
This is going to be some season for them I tells ye....

Man, I drank a brew made out of 700 mushies once with another fella who never tripped before and 1 other lad. the other lad jumped up on his bike and did a runner the minute he came up and wasn't seen again for 5 hours and the lad who never tripped before kept telling me how bad he felt over and over again, while I struggled on thinking I was surrounded by thousands of rowdy travellers.

I think they look ok? Little brown nipple on the top and the cap curves in at the gills. I am far from an expert at picking so I could be wrong.

Ah I was only winding. I picked a few fucking beasts myself when I was out. Biggest I've found of any year I reckon. Wonder what is the story with that?

It was bitterly cold here on the border yesterday evening. Today was wet and mild.
I'm keeping the mushies I'm getting in these two particular fields in their own container seperate from whatever else I pick because of the humongousness of them.
I reckon that the picking season should last another while, because, as you said it's still fairly mild.
The trees aren't really shedding their leaves yet either. That usually tickles the little feckers into life too.

For the beginner the best thing to do is familiarise yourself with what they look like. look at as many pics online as possible, then head up to the hills. They are very distinctive looking. Grazing land is usually best as the grass is a bit shorter. They grow all over the place so don't be disheartened if you waste a few days looking before you find anything. Pissing rain and fairly cold is best conditions.

Can't afford to waste a couple of days looking out for them because of working too much and stuff, but will give it a shot or two and see what the lady luck will have

As astfgyl said, look out for fields that have been grazed on. I also find that thistles and rushes (juncus) are usually present in the fields that I find them in.
I'd ask people from the area if they know if there's any mushie fields about. You'd be surprised at how many people know where they are and picked them when they were younger. I'd download Google Earth onto your phone and they can show you exactly which field(s) they are on about.
This is the best way to find them I believe, because just rambling into fields takes up your time and usually you end up finding none.
Also, some mushrooms will look like Liberty Caps with the wee nipple on top of the cap but the best way to test if it's a LC is press the stem. If it's 'meaty' and firm it's a LC. It it crushes and is watery, throw it away.

Guess I have enough info now.
Besides, these mushrooms look the same as "home grown", which I've used before, so there shouldn't be any further missunderstandings.
A few goes at picking them and you will never pick the wrong ones again anyway. Heading out myself in an hour or so. I'll report back on the pickings.

How I first learned where to find them was looking out the classroom window and seeing the local lads on their hands and knees out behind the school pitch. One fella in the class who was a bit of a lost cause at school asked the teacher could he go out and pick some.. Teacher says "No, but you can go to the toilet if you want". Two minutes later he is out there in the uniform picking with the lads and the vice principal running out after him to get him back in. Pretty funny stuff.

Went out picking today to some fields a lad told me about. I got soaked through for 3 of the little feckers... :laugh:
Same here, went to a spot and got blasted by the wind and rain for fuck all. Meanwhile 2 other lads I know got roughly 400 each going a couple of miles the other direction. Fuck sake.
Was at a friend's house today for a coffee. I found 25 of the little gifts in her garden.

Ah man that's sweet. A mate of ours grows mushies so we've been dabbling all year on them. Had some great parties all over the summer.
Definitely helped to shake off the Covid blues.
I have only ever had the dried mushrooms never tried the ones here. Can you store away whatever you pick for a while or will they go off after a few weeks? Wouldn't mind getting some but I have no plans to take them in the next few weeks.
Once they're thoroughly dried and then properly stocked, you can keep them for months. They're magic!

Are you in Ireland? As BSC says there, the online method works perfectly well if you can't get em where you are either way. There are lots of kits to grow Cubensis available online as well. A few of my mates do that and it's piss easy and low tech.
Regarding the mental benefits, I find them great for beating the winter blues in small doses. They certainly can change one's outlook as well but it doesn't have to end in a caravan. It's a bit more subtle than that!

The kits are great and simple to set up and grow. A couple of weeks and you'll have your first flush.

They're nowhere near as potent as the ones we used to get from the headshops but there's a decent buzz off them and the growing experience is an absolute joy.

I've never tried the mushies but the older I get, the more inclined I am to give a micro dose a go. Was almost afraid of them when I was younger because of the stories of uncontrollable madness people were stricken with after them, one involving two lads rolling around in puddles in the pitch dark alone, holding each other by the scruff of the neck and roaring into each other's faces to harden out their trips after doing up a 700 brew between them into a flagon bottle for one evening. I mean yeah fuckin hilarious but I was always wracked with a particular anxiety that gave me a fear of being the one case where it would all go wrong and I'd end up in a lake. That didn't stop me drinking my skin off or absolutely living off more smoke than air for years of course.
Now that I'm older and a bit more settled I'd feel more comfortable meself with something like them on a very minor scale alright. Maybe next year.
If you've a general anxiety about it, which can be understandable, just start on a half dose. 60 liberty caps is a good rule of thumb for a proper but not too intense first trip, and if your set and setting is right, it's fairly fool proof at that dosage. So, if worry is an issue, take 30 some time when you can either just listen to tunes, go for a walk in nature, be with good buzz mates who have taken a similar dose, and that anxiety will dissolve.
I have a slight residue of anxiety about taking high doses, but I also know how to deal with a trip that starts to veer the wrong way, and know (for me personally) never to take a high dose if the setting is wrong...notably, anywhere there are lots of drunk, non-tripping people listening to shit music :laugh:

Yeah man if you're feeling anxious, start off with low doses like Chris said and work your way up. You can actually get a really nice body high on a low dose without experiencing any visuals, so I don't think you'd be in any danger of freaking out. The visuals are where it's at for me though!
Whenever somebody tells me that they tried psychedelics and didn't have a great time, I ask them where they took them. Almost every answer is the same: at nightclub while they were twisted drunk/ just before walking into the local pub "for the craic"/ at a houseparty where they didn't know anybody... In other words not prepared. Get your set and setting right, preferably somewhere where you won't be disturbed and you should have yourself a grand auld time.
Took a few in a yoghurt as a young long hair and I really enjoyed it. It was a small dose though, no more than 30 and I was with a bunch of pals doing the same. I haven't taken them since after doing way too much LSD at 4 in the morning once and weeping like a woman the next day, begging Jesus to end the nightmare.
So yeah, don't do loads or in the wrong setting.
I was put off for a long time after a few hard LSD trips, but I got back into it when a fella convinced me to take 5. Ah here I said, I'll get nothing off that. Lo and behold all I got was a warm fuzzy feeling and my vision sharpened up slightly. I then understood the concept of microdosing, and having been a 200 at a time man previous to that I couldn't believe someone could feel anything at all at such a low dose. Every year since I start low and build it up as the season goes on until it culminates in a good blowout and I simply lost the urge for a few months. Not even get put off, just the urge disappears. I've learned since that LSD and Psilocybin are so wildly different that the comparison is unfairly made between the two. Acid is a bit of a headfuck but the mushies are warm and inviting. The next day effect is brlliant as well. It always feels to me as if the cobwebs have been cleared from my mind.
And to concur with the lads, setting is very important. Just take a few at home with one or two people you trust and the fear factor shouldn't come into it.

The whole point of a micro dose is so that you won't actually feel anything so if your looking for a buzz 30 liberty caps would be loads for your first time. Someone mentioned 60 and personally I think that would be way too many for a first time.
I plan my doseage by weight, not by numbers. There's a fair variable between the max and min shroom size. 50 big shrooms one person picked could be a fair bit more than 50 baby shrooms another picked.
An eight, or 3.5g is a pure daycent trip.
Anything 5g and up - you'd wanna hold onto your hat Dorothy!
I've never microdosed so I'm not sure of the dosage, if I had to guess I would imagine something like 0.2g?
And those measurements are for dried weight. If you're eating fresh, you'd want to multiply those figures by 10, as fresh shrooms are about 90% water.

Ah, 50 or 60 is what I would recommend for a first timer. It's akin to the same buzz off an E I'd say.
60 was my first ever trip. I'd never done anything stronger than grass up until that point. The set and setting was absolutely perfect (half of it spent outside in Teletubby land, a.k.a. a golf course, on a starry summer's night), has to be said, but the whole vibe was mellow incredible. If you're used to smoking weed, I'd say 30 is like a mix of being drunk, but with a totally clear head, and being really high, but like "high" high, not "ugh, stoooooned" high.
It depends on the person. 30 libs had me hallucinating and got me fairly fucked up.

I had 80 for my first trip and it was pretty fucking strong. I thought it would kick in as quick as drink and after a few minutes they hadn't worked and I went home to eat the dinner with the parents. That was an experience! Ended up having to put up with the buzz on my own for the night then as I couldn't find my pals when I ventured out to look for them. Was fairly relieved when I came down, but having learned that I wouldn't be stuck like that forever I was back out picking the next day.
Previous to that I hadn't even smoked a joint before. blessed1's avatar spooks me every time I see it
Cheers for the advice lads, will definitely look into it next year and yeah general anxiety not prevailing i'll probably try a micro of them in a decent setting. Probably too long gone now to have as deadly a time as some of ye are describing for your firsts, but will still have an excuse to flake out either listening to or making tunes with a few in me.

I've gone up to about 350 liberty caps and it is pretty fucking intense. Not bad, just intense. The coming up was rough, but it leveled out into a good time after a bit. The brew I made and shared with a couple of lads back in the day was stronger, even though it was less mushies. As a young lad I ate 55 fresh ones and had ridiculous visuals for the dose, way stronger than some of the 100-200 buzzes I've had. They can be unpredictable

Went to my two usual fields outside town after work today. In just over 2 hours I'd say I picked well over 500. I'll count them properly tomorrow.
They're out in force this year. It's like someone/thing is looking after us.

Out the Beamore road in Drogheda was always the spot when I was a chiseler. The mists coming down over the fields, the cows lowing, the hill of Tara away in the distance and the Boyne valley just a short stretch away, you could almost hear the druidic chants and the battle songs of the old kings as you go about your picking. I only did mushies a few times but always out there..magic indeed!

Top tip for drying the mushies. Put them on grease proof paper. They won't stick to it unlike cardboard or newspaper.

I'm really grateful for the tip(have actually tried one of the roads crossing Beamore road previously). Will give Beamore road a try when circumstances allow me in a day or two.
If this year doesn't bear me any fruits, hope the next one will be without, or with less corona restrictions. Then I'd just roam around the place for the craic.

Jesus, lads. 20-25 is my safe space these days. Enough to give everything that super high def detail and giddy physical feeling. It's mad how times change, though. We definitely would have done hundreds between us over a weekend years ago. Lash them into a pot, buckle up type shit. It sums up the Irish attitude towards drugs, doesn't it. You have renowned wizards like McKenna giving lectures about the prep work involved in 'heroic doses' and a lot of us definitely went way over that before purely on a whim, walking around the village without a care in the world.
I've not looked this year, but I'm also hearing of massive hauls. Have a few days off at the end of the week so hoping I can sneak some in before Samhain. 50 would do me and herself. No car, at the moment either, so it's more or less whatever fields aren't overlooked by kitchen windows within a 2 hour walk from Cork City for me. I'll be up at 6 to try my best, though.
I've heard lemon tekking rather scientifically works wonders for converting low stash trips into head melters. Something about the alkalines breaking the psilocybin down into psilocin - a process that normally happens in your gut - when you mix up the lads and let them rest in lemon juice for 20 minutes. You come up like a rocket.
Or so I'm told.

Was only talking to a fella the other day who did the lemon tek and his response was the he won't be doing that again. Said the come up was awful. Funny what you say about heroic doses and how we used to do it on a whim. The bravery of youth. I just couldn't do it to myself like that any more but fair fucks to anyone who can handle it.
When I did the 20g (dry) dose in August it was insane for the visions. I was absolutely melted into the concrete in the back yard. It was beautiful.
Not one second was too heavy and I never felt it was too much.
The only downside was I wished it had lasted longer than 6 hours. :laugh:
I reckon the relatively short duration of mushroom trips is a great thing. Always get the best sleep ever off em as well and wake up like a new man in the morning. I honestly wouldn't have the balls for 20g. Don't think I've ever gone that far but I have no idea what the greatest weight I've taken is so I'll probably never find out.
The hardest thing about 20g's is trying to munch the fuckers down. :laugh:

'Twas hardcore last year when the farmer drove his jeep into the field and meself and pal just stayed picking. All he did was pull up beside us and a bit of howye lads grand day etc and then off on his merry way. My mate left him a tin of USA biscuits at the gate of the field with a thank you note on it at the end of the season. I decided years back if any farmer asked me what I was at I'd just say I was picking mushrooms and if he told me to fuck out of it, fair enough. It happened with another farmer a couple of years ago when he came into the field after me saying 2 of his neighbours had spotted my car pulled up at the field and rang him. I told him what I was at, got chatting and he said he knew my parents and I was welcome any time and also pointed out which other fields of his were grazed a bit shorter for convenience. The only downside was that the pickings were bad there but sure ah well.
Was out this morning for a bit. Got around 350 in 2 hours and roughly same for the fella with me. Have em laid out on the grease proof paper now as per your suggestion. They were all fresh up as well so be ready for the next flush any time now.
The only place I've ever found them is golf clubs.
Only managed to get out for the first time last week. Brought a friend with me and we managed to get roughly 800 between us in about 2 hrs. Not too bad! There was still loads left so will be back on Sunday.
They seem to be out in full force this year.

In company picking don't give a shit. A farmer or land owner is less likely to approach a couple of (or a few) lads looking hard into the grass. :laugh:

Went back today in the pissing wind & rain. I got 8 in one of the fields and none in the other.
I didn't see many on Friday afternoon when I was fleetingly there.
It's not that cold yet for them to have disappeared and there wasn't any signs of anyone else picking.
What's it like further down South lately.?
I'll try another place tomorrow and see what it's like.
It's still going well where I am anyway but seemingly restricted to one single field that has been feeding a large amount of pickers all season. That is second hand info though and I'll be back out myself on Friday to confirm it. It's definitely nowhere near cold enough to finish them off yet anyway. This pissing rain should keep it going for another bit hopefully

Was out at my usual two fields last Thursday afternoon and found a grand total of 1 mushie.
That was to go with the eight I picked the previous week. The season's over for me..... all good though.
Ya its slim pickings out there now. Got 12 grams dried this year which is a lot more than previous years. I spotted other people on the golf course with flashlights the last time too the bastards.
Still going alright down my way anyway but it is at the latter (bitter) end of the season. I reckon this has to go down as the best season I've witnessed so far so no complaints. One of me mates has 150g dry and he has it divided into little jars of honey with 5g in each. Apparently that preserves them indefinitely and I'm considering doing similar. Be fair fuckin sick from all that honey but not half as sick as having no mushies.
Btw Kurt, I used your tip for the greaseproof paper and I'm never going back to the newspaper or tissue

So, the mushies kicked in strong after 20 minutes and the first two hours were super intense.
After that I levelled and stayed up till 4am. Had a lovely night on the and had a couple of whiskies and a nice smoke to cap the night off.
Whiskey and mushrooms are bliss. Got myself in some hilarious confusion with that combo. Thought I wrote a Leonard Cohen album at one point.
My mate who grows mushies just informed me a little while ago that he's hitting 15g's tonight.
He's probably just coming up right about now.

I've been doing a few mushroom therapy sessions with friends so have been taking them quite a lot recently. I'm giving them 3g and doing 5 myself.

Haven't had the acid in years. Always found it a bit hard on the head the next few days vs the mushrooms which I find more like a clearing of the cobwebs. The trips were always great off it though.
I've had more profound after effects from acid than I ever have from mushrooms. Went camping last night on me tod and took a trip. Feel brand new today.

Depends on the acid, what way your head is afterwards. The ones I've had the last few years has been absolutely great to do and as mentioned above, been grand for the head afterwards.

Hey there's an awful lot to be said for the buzz of going out picking even aside from taking them. I love the whole lot, the smell in the air, the traipsing through the fields, the dark creeping into the evenings. It's just class.

I've the lookalikes out in my back garden already and it's barely above sea level so I'm currently living in hope of a bumper year. Still haven't seen the end of last year's lot but they are gone weak now, not even half strength. The odd thing is I seem to come up fine off em but it wears off really quickly rather than having to take more to get going. Ah well, they served me well

It's that wee bit colder up here alright. This warm spell will probably delay them a tad, but by the next rains we should see a flourish I'm sure.
I'm gagging for it after finishing up the last of last year's haul the other night. Finished on a high note though, decided to bring the little dog for a walk, came up strong on the way and could hardly make it home I was laughing so hard at how fast his little legs were going. Just as well it was night because it's a small town and I have to be seen in it at regular times. Laughed me bollix off though, proper doubling over stuff.

Get out again they are everywhere now. I went out for a scout last week and only got 20 in the same field I got the 250 in.
Got 550 in the same place today and not even quarter of the field covered. Out again as soon as I can

I have no idea why it's so good there. It's not particularly high altitude and the hill faces north west. Can pull up the car at the roadside, hop over the gate and straight down to business. There's sheep in there grazing which I believe helps.

What part of the country are you in? Any grazing field has potential and it's hard to describe exactly but they do grow nearly everywhere on the island. Usually up hills but that's not hard and fast either. Sorry that's not much help. I'll take a picture next time I'm out and that might help a bit
It will be in Monaghan. Fairly hilly ground but not a massive altitude if that makes a difference, plenty of grazed fields around at least. Was just wondering from the talk of South facing slopes if there were certain areas better suited to them growing rather than just running through random fields with cow shit in them
Went to a local playing field that I hadn't visited in about 3 years, because it dried up for some reason.
Got between 300/400 in about 40 minutes picking.
Looking forward to going back there next week...

Holy fuck lads. I finally got to experience this. Found the holy grail of spots, literally could not look at any point of the field and not see mushrooms. Fuck me sideways, must have picked about 800 - 1000 and I've only just scratched the surface of the field. Amazing.

Bought a grow kit, from scratch, spores in a syringe job. The company sent me a free mystery strain syringe along with the one I'd originally ordered.
Would anyone here know if I'm able to use both syringes/spores on the one kit. Theres enough material to innoculate 3ml of spores, each syringe is 1.5ml. but I'm unsure with them potentially being two separate strains this might be an issue?
I've emailed the company my query but said could take a week to reply and sooner I start sooner I pick.
Don't do it. I don't think you have anything to gain from using 2 different spores.
It will be a nightmare if one strain fruits earlier than another, you'll have to remove the box out of the bag twice as often, which could leave you twice as prone to infection.
I haven't used syringes in donkeys, I can't visualise what 1.5 ml is, but if you have enough to inoculate the opposite corners of the substrate - do that as it will colonise faster.
From what I remember, it's going to take about 5 weeks from when you inject the spores, to it being almost fully colonised, and then another 2ish weeks from there to when you're actually picking the shrooms. That's almost bringing you into the new year!
If you're in a rush to pick, I recommend buying a kit that's already colonised. All you have to do is add water and you're good to go. If you bought a kit today, you'll shave a few weeks off your wait time.

I had considered getting one of the colonised kits but it was gonna be £35 shipping from Holland. I got the spore kit from the UK for about half the price. My mate has got from this seller before and got 3 good flushes, so hoping it works out. Plus I'm also trying to grow some oysters ATM, so wanna see if I can get a hang of the whole process.
Can't remember the exact strain but the Thai ones. Wanted something gentle as my lady wants to give them ago and has nice had any psychedelics before. I'm intrigued as to what the mystery strain is though.
I did a couple of quick searches about mixing spores, out of curiosity. It appears that either:
A - one strain will take over as the dominant strain, so your box will only produce 1 type
Or
B - they will co-exist and your box will produce the 2 strains
However, that's under the assumption that both strains belong to the same species. Those Thai spores you have would be psilocybe cubensis, so if the other mystery strain is of a cubensis species (it most likely is, unless wherever you bought them also offer different species, in which case who the fuck knows?) then you should get outcome either A or B above.
Personally, I wouldn't mix it this time. Along with the fact that we don't really know what that mystery strain is, the fact that it was free could mean that it's old stock too. There's also a possible increase in the risk of contamination, since you'd be inocculating from an additional source.
Maybe just try and keep your first grow simple and straightforward and then take it from there. You could make your own substrate for the mystery strain and keep the grows separate in different boxes.
Make sure you clean the fuck out of everything and good luck!

That's interesting, didn't think they would coexist at all. Sounds like it's not worth mixing them just on the off chance they might happen to work together. I'll stick to the original Thai strain and worst case scenario, when it probably fails, I'll have a back syringe up syringe ready to go.

My mate is one of those annoying people with a knack for pulling off most things he tries first time.
No worries man. Since the weather is getting colder, I would advise taking whatever measures need to be done to keep the temperature as close as possible to what it needs to be.
The first time I inocculated a box, the temp was about 7 degrees below what it should have been, and the box took about an extra 2-3 weeks to colonise.

There's loads growing in the forest I trek daily close to home. Makes for beautiful photos, but that's as far as I will leave it. Listening to people's experiences on them, I've never felt the urge to indulge myself and I'll stick with the Libs and the ones my mate grows. The more I've schooled myself on the AMs, the less I've been drawn to them.

That's decent news for Germans but as said it'll never happen here because most people and indeed politicians are still in the "shur tha'oul shtuff drives lads mad" camp, or as I like to call them, handicapped.

I have nothing so far but it has been a rather mild September. Looking forward to getting the first haul under the belt. Have discovered a new way to preserve them as well by making a brew from them and freezing it I tried it lately and it was lovely they were preserved like fresh. Will be making a fine batch of that this year for myself
I think it's mostly higher altitudes for the time being, but plenty to be found it seems.
I've heard of people making some sort of honey infusion with their shrooms. Have you tried that?
Haven't done the honey myself but I know a chap who does it and he puts them straight into the honey fresh and it keeps them apparently. I wouldn't fancy having to eat all that honey though. The frozen brew certainly works anyway, the bit I had last week was a year old and it was lovely, exactly like fresh brew with a 10 minute come up and all.
Couple of places I checked were barren but not too high up. I have heard tell of lads scoring them up the north and border counties but not a lot about down south. Weather looks great at the moment though.

Ah I didn't realise the honey method was for preserving them fresh. I'd just assumed that they'd be dried and ground up, you'd only need a spoonful and away you go :laugh:
That map is mostly white now. It was red in most places yesterday. Mate of mine is just after filling a lunchbox full in a field in Meath at a relatively low altitude. So I'd say yeah, it was accurate for yesterday but maybe because it didn't rain (here anyway) it went back to white? Seems like a handy guideline anyway.

Went out the weekend only got around 30. Very sparse. Been hearing of lads finding decent hauls around the coasts but fuck all doing in Tipp as of yet. The suspense is killing me and even though I've had a handy couple of trips already and can get plenty of last year's preserve, there's nothing like getting out for a pick it's one of my favourite things ever when the getting is good.

Yep, I've heard a few people saying they are stronger this year, at least when fresh anyway. Why is this? I didn't think they'd vary in strength year to year. If this is true then I wonder what causes the potency to fluctuate, and would they differ from county/field?
Picked about 200 yesterday but had to cover a fair amount of terrain/altitude to get them. A mate of mine just walks to his magical field and can pick in 10 mins what takes me 2.5 hours.
Still, I fucking love the hunt.

I always pick them at the same golf course every year but I was going for a walk the last day around where I live and in a field not too far from my house I found a huge field covered in them.

It has been a very wet summer and I think the rain brings them out as much as the cold nights. That's just me though because nobody has actually grown them in captivity even now in the age of The Science.

Got a few myself but not as much as previous years, my local spot seems to thrive in October and I didn't get out there as much as I would have liked. Been going weekly over the last month or so but the pickings were a bit sparse. Fucking love it though.
Bought some online (fair few places sell them if you pay with crypto) and had a wee trip at home for the first time in about a decade. Nice light trip with mainly colours, rippling surfaces, patterns moving etc. Listened to Tame Impala's Currents on repeat for about the entire 4ish hours of the trip. Miss the days of heading out with the lads on a morning with our plastic bags hoping to get a haul.
I got a decent haul in the end this year despite not having the time to get out picking much at all. Life would do that with work and family and whatnot. Could see myself going down the kit road in time but it's the picking that's as much of a buzz as anything. Think I'll miss that as much as the trip itself if it comes to it

Right so, I showed a couple of lads the good spot a year or 2 ago just showing the joy of the wonderful gift of nature like any good mushroom take should. Well the lads I showed have now taken other lads to the spot and instead of picking them and having them, they've taken to making a product of them, picking them by the thousands and not taking them but rather selling them in honey by the gram and I just think the good has so much gone from it now that I want to find a new spot entirely and just tell nobody and give away the spares but the cunts I told about the good word are actually camping on the sites and going out from morning until night making sure nobody else will have a chance to participate before they have them all picked for sale.
That is not the way these things are supposed to be done and I hope every one of the greedy cunts has a 5 hour panic attack every time they ever have them again.
I'm so annoyed that I won't even go back to the best field because I don't want to meet those cunts and have them think I'm anything like them.
I'll still look for some but fuck the modern mentality with the shit sesh gremlin mentality I want to burn them all for their horrible selfishness.

Lads how do you store the Mushrooms after you bring them home? Went out for the first time ever today and I think we got a few. Not many but if they are magics at least I know where to go next time. Also is this month it and then after October they won't be around again until next September?
I dry them out on sheets of paper left under the bed and I store them by wrapping them in both brown paper and greaseproof paper in a dark spot of the shed. They've lasted me well over a year like this without going off.
They'll grow until the first hard frost into the ground, ie if it's only on the grass that's grand. I've picked them up until new year's eve which was the longest they've been out as long as I've been picking them
Edit: if you want to dm me a pic, I'll tell you if they're grand or not if you're feeling doubtful at all
I dry them out on non-stick baking paper. I used to use newspaper, but the caps would stick to it, so it's baking paper all the way for me.
For storage, I use either glass jars or tupperware containers with a few wee packets of silica gel in there. Lasted me years.

Yeah you definitely don't want to leave them in a plastic bag, best to let them dry as soon as possible. And bear in mind you'll probably see some small organisms crawling out of them, so don't be drying them on your carpet or anything where they could find a new home!

I'm not sure what you mean by 'normal', but they're generally stronger when they're fresh. They can lose a little bit of potency when dried, and depending on how they are stored. Light and air is not great for preservation. You want them to be cracker dry for proper storage.
Mushrooms are about 90-95% water, so the weight difference is HUGE. 1 gram fresh is about .1 gram dry, 10 grams fresh is about 1 gram dry etc. Just divide by 10.
Most dosage charts you'll find online will refer to the dry weight, so there's no point in weighing them fresh unless you are weighing them as soon as you pick them. If you weighed them when they're only half dry, you wouldn't get an accurate reading.

Mushrooms are about 90-95% water, so the weight difference is HUGE. 1 gram fresh is about .1 gram dry, 10 grams fresh is about 1 gram dry etc. Just divide by 10.
Most dosage charts you'll find online will refer to the dry weight, so there's no point in weighing them fresh unless you are weighing them as soon as you pick them. If you weighed them when they're only half dry, you wouldn't get an accurate reading.
Yeah I put them back in the bag as I had thought alright something might come out of them going to head out now next week for more. By normal I just mean't the ones you would buy in a shop in the likes of Amsterdam. Thanks yeah that makes sense so I guess I will just try to get as many as I can over the next few weeks. I will check out those links as well.

Think you can only buy truffles in Amsterdam now, I'm not even sure what they are and what weight etc
But the mushrooms you could buy there years ago (and here also over the counter, up until 2006) could only be sold fresh and would probably have been about 35g fresh, so that's anout 3.5g dry.
BUT, they belong to the psilocybe cubensis family.
Liberty caps belong to the psilocybe semilanceata family, and are more potent (33% maybe) per gram than what were being sold in the shops.
I saw a chart online somewhere to compare dosage between the two. I think 2.5g liberty caps could be around the 3.5g cubensis that they were selling in shops.
By the way, if you're interested, there's also a type that grow here known as 'wavy caps' which belong to the psilocybe cyanescens family. Apparently they can grow from the wood chips in Aldi car parks later on in the year. I've never seen nor tried them, but they are of a different strength again.
I can still get those Amsterdam style Mushrooms here the odd time they are the same as the ones you can grow at home yourself. I had those head shop Mushrooms before they were made illegal and they were weird. They were like little smarties and you had to eat shit loads of them. Only had them the once to be honest they felt more like weed edibles than Mushrooms. The 95% water thing you mentioned is probably why as I must not have eaten enough of them.
I've been on the lookout for the wavy caps for a few years but have never managed to find any. Would like to try them if anyone does find any send a pic.

I did notice yesterday that things were a bit dry and not a massive amount of new ones as well but we have the good cold nights now and a forecast for rain so looking forward to next weekend. What's the craic like picking at night?

You just have to turn them every few hours to stop them sticking to each other and they'll be the finest after a day or two. Then wrap them up in the greaseproof paper and good to go until at least next year.

Somebody told me years ago that it can be somewhat easier, as the wet mushrooms glisten under the torch light.
Most of the ones I found last night were older and were already drying, I didn't notice much new growth, similar to yourself.
I wish I had a head torch, I only had the torch on my phone and had to squeeze it between my knees every time I squatted down for a pick, fucking awkward :laugh:
I didn't go out intentionally because it was dark, it was because I was visiting the folks and had nothing better to be doing after sunset. In a nice flat field with no hazards or animals to worry about. My folks own the field, so I didn't feel sketchy wandering about in the middle of the night, might be different on somebody else's property, they could get the wrong idea :laugh:
But yeah, an abundance of stars and an almost full moon overhead. Magical indeed.

I just don't want anything like that in the house. I went around a week ago and hovered up all the spiders and webs from the corners. Already some new spiders are back in the same spots.

Had a handful last night and went out for a snow fight. Some craic I nearly died from the laughing
I gave up this year the one's I got I left in a lunch box and they just disintegrated into the parchment paper they were sitting on. Will prepare myself properly for later this year when it starts again.
All I did was spread them out in a cardboard box until they were bone dry and then put them into an envelope inside a plastic box and they're after staying proper potent up to now. Hadn't had many of late but they were fuckin lovely last night in the snow

I got many as usual and I've been tripping away. So I decided to do the micro thing for starters just to see what all the hype was about but one of the mornings I went too far and it started kicking in at work while I was doing something truly unsuitable to being on mushrooms and it was really not fun at all trying to keep it together so I just went back to like the nighttime stuff but anyway they're out in force and still going strong and I don't think they're going away any time soon.
How are any of the rest of ye getting on that like a few? Talking to a few lads and I think it's gone out of fashion a bit this year compared to others like I've met a good few lads who just aren't bothered
Haven't been out yet. Still very mild so I'd say they'll be around for a good while yet.
My usual spots aren't very fruitful this year, but I'm hearing reports of people having much better luck elsewhere.
I had to go to higher ground than usual to get a good pick but it has been very warm up to now
