BEHEMOTH
King John's Castle Limerick
17th June 2019
6pm - 18+
€49.50 inc bkg fee from www.ticketmaster.ie & outlets nationwide & www.dolans.ie
King John's Castle (Irish: Caisleán Luimnigh) is a 13th-century castle located on King's Island in Limerick, Ireland, next to the River Shannon. Although the site dates back to 922 when the Vikings lived on the Island, the castle itself was built on the orders of King John in 1200. One of the best preserved Norman castles in Europe, the walls, towers and fortifications remain today and are visitor attractions. The remains of a Viking settlement were uncovered during archaeological excavations at the site in 1900.

Very cool.
Nice.
I would have thought Behemoth are a bigger band than Amon Amarth these days ?
What's the venue like chaps?
Indoor/Outdoor?
Capacity?
Seating?
Outdoor standing 2000.
This is an interesting announcement. I think a road trip is in order or maybe a train trip. June's a busy one this year.
Would make an excellent live video concert.
Awesome announcement, this should be a fun day and gates open at 6? There a couple of smaller support acts or is there a fairly early curfew in place for the castle?
Does that Castle regularly hold concerts?,anyone been before?
Only been 2 or 3 over the years that I recall. Can't remember how long ago the last one was. What a setting though! Not particularly into either band but I'll most likely go anyway cos I'd say it'll just be a cool night.
10/10 the amon lads will be larping in the castle
It's a bit of a shit line up to be honest.
Needs twelve tribute bands to boost numbers and maybe Incantation in a headline slot.
Great stuff , two class live bands , have been in the castle but never any gig thats been on there heard its a great spot for a gig , 1hr set from behemoth and 1hr30mins from amon amarth you would think , weekend would surely sellout monday night in a busy month for gigs hard to see , hopefully it does well anyway fantastic to have a gig like that in limerick fair play to all involved in organizing it .
Will there be a Dublin date?
Monday night? That's me fucked coming from the opposite end of the country. Two days off work ain't doable for this kid unfortunately.
Not a fan of either but is this a one off or could it be the start of having metal gigs here every once in a while?
Seems like it'd be a cool venue for gigs or even one day festivals.
It has the potential to be one of the best venue's in Ireland,Dolans have it organised really well, the only issue is that they have played it safe with the acts there the last few years-Bell X1 played there about 20 times, same with the coronas and imelda may.About time something less pedestrian has a chance there.
They use it for gigs on a semi regular basis. It's a pretty amazing setting but as pointed out above, up till now it was much more middle of the road acts that have played there.
Can't wait for this to happen. It's going to be quite the show!

Well I live in Ennis and spent my youth traipsing up and down on busses and trains and later driving (and still do ) to gigs in Dublin, never had to take 2 days off to go to an evening gig though!

What time are you picking me up at on Monday afternoon buddy?
Got a ticket, looking fwd to this!
Bought my tickets on the Dolans website and there wasn't a single extra charge, fair play to them!
Don't give Ticketbastard any money for this gig!
Cool, they send out tickets though or do you need an auld printer?

Don't even think you need to collect it from Dolans, just print out the booking (or the attachment) and bring it along
Not even, just have it on your phone. AFAIK you don't need to print it out
Yeah, you can print it out or just have it on your phone for them to scan. No hassle at all and save at least 2 pints worth in the process.

Will Amon Amarth be back early nexy year with Arch Enemy and Hypocrisy in tow? ;)
The former Mayor of Limerick. Was just interviewed on Today FM.He reckons the gig should be banned due to Behemoth being a bunch of Satanist's🙄.
Would love it if someone showed up with "down with this sort of thing" sign

that interview is gold ::)
'Will Amon Amarth be back early nexy year with Arch Enemy and Hypocrisy in tow? ;)'
Simple answer to that one. No.
:)
First time in Limerick for this, any recommendations for decent boozers?
Cheers
Curragower is a pretty decent pub, across the river from King John's castle. The Locke Bar is a good spot too.
There's an after party in Dolan's if you're into that kind of thing

Mickey Martins is my go-to when I go for pints. Good guinness and good craic. Dead city centre too. Curragower and The Locke are grand spots too and basically beside the castle. Pharmacia can be decent if there's a few of ye but I don't think it opens until 4.00 or 5.00pm. Wickham Tap is great if you're into craft beer, it's a Galway Bay Brewery pub - haven't been in there in a while but it was my local for ages. Dolan's has the after party and is a top spot regardless but might be a bit far of a walk for pints beforehand - all the rest I mentioned are within 10 minutes of the castle walking. Plenty of other spots that would do the job but they're my recommended ones. I end up in Mickeys at least once a week so I have to give that a shout

Ah well cheers, just seen the venues couldn't house that I suppose Apollo in Manchester and Brixton Academy as well as a Brum date.
Cheers for all the replies, I'll be there from 1 so try hit as many of the recommendations as possible
I take it this is nowhere near soldout.
Two shit band for a hefty fee.

I'm going to this and looking forward to Behemoth, any parking nearby?
Saw both bands at download festival this weekend. Well impressed. Your in for a treat. Enjoy. :abbath:
What's the capacity of the King John's Castle? I've never been there but photos of gigs held in the venue suggest a big crowd can fit into the space.
I would love to be going to this. Everything about it says "incredible show".

It's supposed to be about 2,000. Been in there a few times but not for gigs, meant to be a savage spot for them.

Park near the city hall or anywhere towards the city centre. Avoid parking in st. Mary's park, it's not as bad as everyone says but you're still better off parking in the city hall area

I saw the frames there years ago, i knew some of the security there and really didn't like the layout, made their life very hard. I thought it fantastic though as a venue

Yeah would love to be hitting this, but the timing just didn't suit. Was a huge fan of both bands back in the early/mid 2000s so there would have been a nice nostalgia buzz.
Looks like a grand evening, enjoy it folks.
Bad luck to anyone near front right of stage. Two MASSIVE fuckers up front about 6'8 easy

G'up an tell dem to phuck off down the back.
Some clips up on social media look class, such a great setting !
Fantastic crowd, great venue really used well. Never been so proud of my city. Like a summer festival.
Honestly one of the best shows I've been to. The performance from the band banging out the anthems with fantastic enthusiasm, the unexpectedly brilliant sound quality, the spectacle of the pyro against the backdrop of the castle, the fact that it was only a half hour drive home as opposed to the usual 3 hours from Dublin
First time at a gig in the castle, it really is a great venue that I hope to see more of in future :abbath:
Fucking great good. Started on time, seemed like smooth running throughout. I was 2nd row from front.. I have 3rd degree burns!!!
Looks like there was a fairly decent crowd at the gig which us great to see.Hopefully someone will upload some vids.
Pity i couldnt make this, the clips i saw look great. :D
Unreal sport all around. Excellent venue, great sound, great atmosphere. Behemoth were top class. Didn't know a lot of Amon Amarth going in but they were deadly live. Some crowd at it, heads from all over the country. Quare level of drinking, practically crawled home after and now in work absolutely fried and unable to believe it's only Tuesday.
Looked great from the clips. Would have loved to have popped down for it, great setting for a gig.
I have no skin left on my face !

That looks brilliant. Did both bands have the shooting flames for most of their sets? The FF ex mayor will not be happy with Satan's hellfire.
Yup both were blarin it out. Great shit altogether
Very impressive looking. Primordial-fest should be held there in future.
Great show, had a festival vibe to it, but without the mud and crazy queues for booze. Production values were amazing as were the bands and venue. Felt like Christmas with all the Limerick people that travelled home from all over Ireland just to be at it.
Assuming it's financially viable, would love to see this become an annual event. A sellout next time might be a realistic prospect given the buzz/goodwill this one has generated. People were on cloud 9 last night.

Jaysus, all sounds even better than I'd been imagining. Would be an amazing place for a band to record a pro-shot concert, especially cut in with aerial drone shots and so on.
Some decent photos from in the crowd popping up online, a good few here if anyone is interested: https://m.facebook.com/events/1181530005352222
I hope they use this venue more, really great day overall.
As BSC said above, the venue and look to it would be great for recording with drones. The views all around when in the crowd were just great so can only imagine the views of the castle, surrounding area and crowd while the gig is in full throttle
Here you's go. Drone footage....

Great news that this went well.
Not into either band band at all but it looks like it had a great buzz about it.
Fantastic event..behemoth smashed it..no hassle getting pints or going to the jax at the venue..top class..should be a regular occurrence
Absolutely brilliant gig, loved it. Behemoth are not my cup of tea but really put on a stellar performance, Amon Amarth were fucking awesome, great interaction with the crowd and belted out 17 or 18 songs. First time in Limerick and really liked the place, plenty of pubs all within walking distance of the venue. Really hope there's going to be more gigs at the castle, perfect spot for a gig and brilliantly organized, just the right amount of bars and jacks so no big ques. Also after last week's living hell that was slane it was great to be back in a crowd of real metal heads, not a pair of pink wellies or orange lady to be seen and didn't see any trouble or dickheadery.

Wasn't at it but I looks class, hopefully more gigs are held there in the future, I'd travel from Dublin to see a gig there.
That drone footage is a great advertisement for Limerick and DME! Class.
Kinda scary though when you see 2 drones so close together, could be catastrophic for someone on the ground if they collided.

That was a great gig. Both bands killed it, the crowd had a great buzz about it and what a setting! Absolutely dying now though, but it was well worth it, thanks Behemarth, thanks to H and thanks to the friendly local metalheads. :abbath:
Great spectacle last night- both bands pulled out all the stops. As many have said hopefully this isn't a once off in the castle!
Wasn't it great that it was like 2 mins to get in and out of the venue. Not this 17 hr walk all over the place and other general fuckery.
What other bands might work in there?,regretting big time not hitting this now.
Spectacular show but I think alternatives will be looked at if doing a similar thing again as the costs were bananas to use the castle. Great setting though and never say never of course. Chuffed with it anyway and big kudos to Dolans & Bad Rep for all the local work they did on it too.
Great gig, really enjoyed Behemoth and AA were fantastic live even though I wouldn't know their stuff too well, not a bother either plenty of drink and spliff and not a punch thrown bar some lad that was escorted out early doors for some reason?
Yeah, he was escorted out for throwing a punch.

class show with excellent performances and sound quality. It seemed like a success judging by the large attendance anyway. An annual event here would be brilliant!
A guy and girl got booted out early doors (2nd song maybe) for her standin on his shoulders and he walked her through the crowd like that. Stupid thing to do but I felt a yellow card would have been a more appropriate response from the bouncers.
The only negative thing I witnessed was someone pelting a pint that was a quarter full about ten yards in front of them about 25 seconds after aa arrived on stage. The crowd looked to be predominantly in their 30s so what kind of a gowl would you be to do that! Other than that everything was class.
There's something pretty gas about seeing Behemoth on the front page of the Limerick Post.
Brilliant
Looks deadly, sorry now i missed it. Hopefully they do it again.

Without being overly nosey etc if for example the exact same gig was to happen again there. What (estimate) would the ticket prices need to go up to to make it financially viable ?
Roughly how many people attended the gig does anyone know?
