Don't ever really give a shit about song titles or album artwork, they're nice-to-haves. Going to wait until the full record is out but I actually like their later stuff more than anything else. DMDS will always be great but I'm glad they've accepted it shouldn't be replicated and gone in a different direction with it.

Agreed. For me, Ordo Ad Chao is not just one of their best albums, but one of the best albums ever made. Always in my top 3 or 4..

Disclaimer: my favorite albums change on a daily basis.

I really liked Ordo when it was released.  It was out there.  Strange production, weird riffs,  obscure atmosphere.  It hit the spot for me at the time but I haven't listened to it in ages.

It still holds up. Wall of  Water, Illuminate Eliminate and Anti are just as  good as anything on DMDS.

Surprised there isnt more chatter on this, the new album is excellent.
Wolfs lair ep was the last release by Mayhem that I enjoyed but the new one has certainly caught my attention, some catchy tracks on it.
Reminds me of DMDS in places.

I know this sounds fairly caveman but their obviously never going to make another DMDS so would they not just give it up ffs...

Been wrestling with this one since Sunday. Wanted to like it on the back of a good gig and it being signed.

Listened to this last night, did nothing for me. I can't stand Attila's vocals so it was always gonna be running uphill anyway, but even musically it just sounds all over the place. I'll stick with WLA & GDOW.

You think Maniac is a better vocalist than Attlia? I think you are the first person I have ever come across with that opinion. Maniac was awful and Attila is one of the greatest vocalists of all time. DMDS would not be what it is today without Attlia.

The last three albums have been great including this one.

It has started to grow on me since. Maniac is not in the same league as Atilla. I didn't mind him as a vocalist at the time, but Atilla is a much better front man and vocalist.

I love Atila, but I'll never not laugh during Funeral Fog when he croaks "in the middle of Transylvania" like a  camp villain. A lot of his operatic stuff sounds like your da coming home langers years ago, giving out about the 'ra.

New album's grand. It's a bit more kick in the teeth and less atmospheric, more Motorhead less graveyard spook, which isn't particularly what I look for in my black metal.

He sounded like a constipated Dave Mustaine on DMDS, and is no better now. The instrumental rehearsals that were released are infinitely preferable. Wolf's Lair Abyss and Grand Declaration Of War are all the Mayhem I need.

Any day of the week. I find DMDS unlistenable, solely due to him curling one out over every track.

I found Atilla's vocals took a bit of getting used to when I first bought DMDS, and despite loving them now for their unique character,  I have no trouble seeing how someone might not like them. That said,  I think he is one of the most talented vocalists operating in metal.  I saw him with Sunn o))) years back and he utterly stole the show.  The noises coming out of him were simply phenomenal and not of this world.  The ferocious power of his lungs... a mind bending performance.
