A nostalgic trip this one, brother had it ripped to a VHS so was played a lot as a kid. Always enjoyed teethgrinder and how he seems to be in a frenzy doing the unbeliever solo. Bro always would just repeat the bass/drum outro at the end, class drummer.

I lived and died by this on VHS for a good few years it was a smashing video altogether.

Edit: Fyfe Ewing was one class drummer. Irreplaceable for them I would say and the other ones they've had are by no means bad at all but he had that certain something.

Did he ever turn up on anything else at all? Afaik he didn't but I haven't looked in many years

I think he played with another band briefly but nothing that took off. He seems to be a right bitter lad, he wouldn't contribute to their book a few years ago at all - which is a shame as it's a great read anyway and would have been nice to hear his take on things.

Is he bitter? Maybe there was tension in the band when he left? I know nothing at all about him, but his playing was unreal. His drumming had a similar effect on the songs as Rick Miah's had on early MDB stuff- rather than sitting back and enhancing the riffs around it, it acted almost as a lead instrument itself. You could happily just zone in on the drum riffs for each song and get lost in them. Creative genius level stuff.

I think that's a tad unfair labelling him bitter. I believe it was Andy Cairns that became a complete nightmare once the bit of success came to them, this being a major reason for him leaving.

His departure coincided with a sharp decline in quality of their albums, his style made Therapy? what they were. As people have mentioned the other drummers though ok have meant the band slipped into big standard alternative territory. They're gearing up to record their 15th album, 17th if you include the two mini albums and all but a handful are completely forgettable .

Cooper is much closer to Ewing in style than Hopkins ever was at least. Going from one of the best drummers in the scene to a lad who could at best be described as "yeah he's grand" is a mystery.

My understanding is that he thought their sound was veering too far into rock/metal territory when he wanted to go in a more alternative/noise rock direction and went off in a huff. To refuse to have anything to do with them for decades reeks of bitterness to me.

And the Fyfe = Therapy? thing is nonsense, sorry. They all had as much presence in their sound as each other, particularly in the early days. That's doing the otber two a disservice, frankly.

With respect that's a crazy take - Andy Cairns wrote probably 90% of tbe songs on their 2 most successful records Troublegum and Infernal Love.
