Hauntology (a portmanteau of haunting and ontology[1]) is a neologism introduced by French philosopher Jacques Derrida in his 1993 book Spectres of Marx. As a philosophical concept, it refers to the return or persistence of elements from the past, as in the manner of a ghost. It has since been invoked in fields such as visual arts, philosophy, electronic music, politics, fiction and literary criticism.[2]

Derrida used the term to refer to the atemporal nature of Marxism and its tendency to "haunt Western society from beyond the grave."[3] It describes a situation of temporal and ontological disjunction in which presence is replaced by a deferred non-origin.[2] The concept is derived from his deconstructive method, in which any attempt to locate the origin of identity or history must inevitably find itself dependent on an always-already existing set of linguistic conditions.

Has inspired some truly exceptional music...

Same kind of vibe I was trying to get at when describing the artwork and first track to that new Cryptic Shift album too.

How does one progress from Mike to Mick, and why?

makes me miss my ex-gf tbh

Random anecdote, but I was walking past a local youth/community center today and saw a couple of young lads about 13-14 going in with guitars and drums, about a half an hour later when I was walking home even before I was close to passing the center I could hear Crazy Train being jammed, was quite funny seeing people passing by heads turning to the building where the racket was coming from but very cool all the same.

Reminded me of when I was that age learning guitar, pissing off everyone who was unfortunate enough to hear it .

Where was that man? Good friend of mine runs a community rock school in Ringsend and teaches them Sabbath, Lizzy, Zeppelin, etc.

In Crumlin Village, don't know if someone's running something there or anything though.

I keep thinking about how nature tried to evolve different crustaceans into the shape of a crab at least five different times

Unreal. Humans up next for the carcinisation, surely

If the devil tortures lads for all eternity then some lads will already be a few thousand years into it, assuming it got going with the old testament. Some dose.

Eternity is a fair oul stretch, especially near the end.

Here's the bit that gets me. Eternity is eternity like and it goes on forever so does falling into hell 3000 years later make any difference or do those extra 3000 years mean anything to the damned. Do they get to be forever like "sure I was 3000 years into this before you even got going"? Madness really and I could go on for pages but I'll spare you all

It's the paradox of eternal damnation. If you were damned to eternity you'd already be there because eternity doesn't have a beginning nor an end point.
