The main result from an Irish point of view is surely Wales having seemingly finally woken up and taken a further step away from the Union, aligning themselves more closely with trends in Scotland and the north of Ireland.

That's a good point. I'd also think the Welsh angle is somewhat reactionary rather than ideological but I'm not au fait with the Welsh situation at all, so it might be a general shift away from the union altogether indeed. We shall see I suppose.

No way Wales or Scotland could stand on their own 2 feet outside the Union, they would be fucked

I've honestly never looked into the Welsh thing at all like I'd imagine they're entangled to the point they couldn't really be independent at all but that's a very vague feeling I have rather than based on industry etc or public finances and important stuff

I'd imagine Scotland would rejoin the European Union and would be fine eventually, though perhaps a decade of hell to sort it all out. Wales for sure I think would be fucked. They're talking about the next Scottish referendum being in 2028. Hard to imagine it not passing this time around.

Opportunity for the Celtic nations to band together as a group within the EU... and leave England to cope and be the one scratching for special bilateral accords with its neighbours until it too eventually comes crawling back! (Not entirely serious... or unserious.)

RTE showing the Song For Europe episode of Father Ted instead of the Eurovision is a rare moment of inspired humour from them.

And Graham Linehan on newstalk yesterday screaming anti semitism about it was glorious.

Linehan is such a twit. While he occasionally makes a valid point, he had no sense of moderation or proportion, and always veers into the absurd. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it works when it comes to making whacky OTT comedies but it is mortifying when applied to real life. The dude needs a chill pill, STAT!

Linehan would have been applauding RTE if Dana International was representing Israel. Down with this sort of thing.

You can always trust a tin of beans to deliver the goods.

Is that an idiom in relation to Linehan?

It's more literal than that I'm afraid.
