I sent this album to a mate last night too as he also hadn't heard it, that was one of the tunes he singled out alright. He's into producing his own tunes too and was nerding out on the synths/pads used.

In terms of that whole golden age trip hop scene of the time in the UK, it makes total sense that this was released on Aphex Twin's label too. There's really identifiable elements of that Bristol sound present in the tunes, particularly the RnB style vocals -- but it's all a much wonkier and weirder take on it.

From 2004 and still relevant....

Man, the labels were on fire back then. You had Mo'Wax, Skint, Ninja Tune, Warp, etc...
Even Island were in on the game. And speaking of Island and Tricky (most consider Maxinquaye to be the best TripHop album ever)....
Here's a great 17 minute performance by Tricky on KEXP... well worth a watch.

Laibach - Kapital (cd version, because all of the 3 formats have different songs on them)

Listening to a good shot of these lads lately. They really are a unique proposition. This album is a sort of minimal industrial effort with some sort of weird eastern European vibe off it. And even a small bit of rap, of all things.

Here's one off it.

Opus Dei is another brilliant album by them with this classic cover on it. Very tough to represent the albums with a single song though, they twist in all sorts of ways.

Not really an album as such, but just coming back to songs from these lads generally because they had a new release recently.

Really love seeing them live and some of their versions have become the definitive ones for me, this and Lowlands of Holland, just done to perfection imo.

Shawn Phillip - Second Contribution

Saw someone pick this on What's In my Bag? not too long ago and been back to it regularly. It's def best to listen to the full thing, which is on Spotify, if that's an option. Psych, folk type buzz. It's amazing.

Unkle: The Road Part 1

I heard this in a shop while christmas shopping a few years ago. I can't remember what track(s) grabbed my attention back then but after the first couple of tracks, it's pretty bland so far on this listen:

Been enjoying the new Arab Strap album today: https://arabstrapband.bandcamp.com/

Not a band I've ever paid any attention to but this new one is absolutely brilliant!

Aye the couple of tracks I've heard of the album have been great. Must get on the full this week actually.

I'd be a fan of all their stuff, worth checking out IMO along with their solo stuff..

Malcolm's Bananas album getting a good spin this week.

Not an album as such, but these Teutons do the neo medieval stuff better than anyone. Maybe not as pure as Savall and lads like that, but this is a gorgeous version of Reis Glorios. Their interpretation of Palastinalied (I know I know) is the best one going.
