I'm a fan of them alright. Caught them live here in Galway one year after that first album, there must have been only about 50 people in attendance but they wouldn't even fit in a regular pub-style venue down here nowadays id say. Seem to have gotten huge in the last few years. Liked some of the stuff I hear them do with Ghostface Killah too.

Confessions is a serious tune.

III is a favourite album of mine, but I never spent much time with stuff from after that.

Had a brief flirtation with them a few years ago due to some collab but don't think it was GFK. Must revisit at some stage.

While I really do like their music a lot, I must say there has always been something that I couldn't quite put my finger on which held them back from being really amazing. The musicians are great, their knowledge of hip hop and being able to implement that into jazz stylings is great, some good collaborators with them, etc. I think maybe though some of the song writing can be a tad meandering...right for certain moods, but not always reaching its max potential.

Yes and no. In general, yes, but III is perfect, masterful.

A bold statement. Fair enough though I like the album alot too. Ill throw it on today now again for the first time in a long time during work. If you haven't checked out IV the last album I'd recommend it. Enjoyed it probably as much as III albeit haven't given it nearly as much time.

Simon and Garfunkel, any album, any song, its all fucking class. :abbath:

I just discovered this, on a list by AV Club listing the best 50 trip hop albums of all time. Despite Massive Attack, Portishead, DJ Shadow and Tricky being in the top 5 and being some of my most loved albums in that style, I hadn't even heard of No. 6 on the list :

Leila - Like Weather (1998)

Released by Aphex Twin on his Rephlex label, it's by far and away the weirdest shit ive heard in ages. At least anywhere close to the 'trip hop' label. Absolutely brilliant stuff! Apparently it was only remastered and reissued last year, already impossible to find for a decent price on vinyl.

Jaysus, many's a good evening I had with that album and a smoke back when it was released in the late 90's...
Found out about her from a free CD I got with a music magazine that had a great interview with her and I had to delve in more.
I don't think she has released too much more since (just checked; 3 more albums, an EP & Some singles)....
Great mix of styles alright and I'll give the album a spin this evening. She's one cool lady....

@Nazgûl

As trippy as it is, how beautiful a tune is Space, Love...?

Absolutely sublime.....
