Icelandic 'synth-post punk' (I dislike these Instagramy labels but it's what they say about themselves), cool choon though.

Cool enough tune alright, love that bass tone! I don't think I could listen to her vocals for more than a couple of songs though if that's her general tone/pitch. Shrill as fuck

Good that. Saved to playlist....

Prompted by the dearg doom thread:

Bowie - Blackstar.

Having known the hits but always been a casual fan, this blew me away and still does. An epitaph to his own death and a spectacular one at that. Released on the Friday, he died on the Monday.

Inspired me to dig into his back catalog more as well and his stuff hit differently after getting me onside with this. A true work of art.

Normally wouldn't have patience for (most) drone/hipster pedal shite, but came across this, which is more folky (at least this album). (Re the book thread) I was reading Blood Meridian and threw a playlist together and this was best suited.

For me, this is their best lineup and (top 3?) album. Curious to see TD fans on this. (They were best in the early 70s till the mid 80s)

Last bit of spam for tonight. For my money this is one of the best folk songs and performances ever. This album (Brady/Irvine) is probably my favourite.

I've seen Irvine play twice, he's excellent. I have that album on CD, got him to sign it. Nice guy, too.

An absolute work of art this album. It's daft that a guy who had raised the bar so many times prior with reinventing himself and his music, could then come out and write this.

Plucking the musicians from a local jazz band there in New York was a perfect move too. That mix of experimental rock, jazz, even drum n' bass (on the track Sue) is deadly. The artwork, the epitaph to his own death as you mentioned there is all part of it too. I remember seeing the videos for Blackstar and Lazarus, then when he died and it was revealed he had been suffering from cancer those videos took on a whole new meaning.

The girlfriend knew very little of Bowie's music at the time this was released, it's now probably her favourite record we have on the shelf, and also prompted her to check out more of his classic stuff.

Artist: Pile
Album: Dripping
Year: 2012
RIYL: Jawbox, Slint, Pixies, maybe early Radiohead, Jesus Lizard, Harvey Milk

Really enjoying my new discovery of this band. Somebody mentioned them in the live performance videos thread. Unpredictable, catchy, heavy, they kind of have it all really.

That is really excellent. Reminds me also of Guy Picciotto-led Fugazi tracks. And something else that I can't put my finger on...

Funky ass mofo's.....  8)

Since nobody else is going to do it, I will... Frank Jappa

Read an article about them some time back. They were all a bit mad. Guitarist was married to the singer, got divorced but stayed in the band. Topped himself on tour if I recall the story correctly.

To be honest I could have put Fugazi and a ton of other bands down on the 'RIYL' part, as this band have a lot going on in their sound. Mentioned it earlier in the thread, but if you're into that don't stop there -- they have loads of killer albums.

Absolutely love this album! So many good TD albums but this is the one I reach for most often.

For me their top 5 are;

Exit
Phaedra
Poland Live
Cyclone
Sorcerer Soundtrack

Was listening to the Sorceror soundtrack last night as it so happens after reading that the director would've used TD for The Exorcist had he heard them earlier. Is the film worth a watch?

Also, was due to see Andy Irvine and Paul Brady last year but stuff.
