I always wear them bitch. It's the Year of the Depend Adult Umdergarment remember?

Having a go at Lankum or The Mary Wallopers for leaning into being 'Oirish' or whatever is stupid. Both of them are trad groups, playing traditional Irish tunes, albeit with a newer/different slant on them. This in the whole point of 'trad' in our culture whether it's music, stories, customs etc. Carrying on/preserving what came before while adding to it in your own way. Whatever about liking the tunes or not but seems silly to be bringing up their Irish-ness as being fake or a brand or whatever.

I think the Mary Wallopers are good craic but basically just leaning into what The Pogues were at. Lankum are class.

I dont think I saw anyone slagging lankum anyway, I know I adore them, and do not wish for anyone to think otherwise. They are exceptional.

Ill bite on the rest of the discussion as I brought some of it up.

I dont doubt their authenticy, nor do I suggest its a calculated move on the musicians part. I was more lamenting the popularity of songs and imagery surrounding pints on the international stage, as at times, to me it seems like a prerequisite for attaining attention in the broader media (as in the international market couldnt care less unless its about pub culture).

Which is saddening, as we have such a beautiful and diverse tapestry of arts, outside of pub culture. I find the popularity of music centered on playing the class clown pub goer extremely tedious. Maybe the mary whallopers dont fit this bill, all I know is I googled them and saw a load of pints of guiness on their album cover and a load of piss take photos.
