Probably deserves it's own thread.

I'm finding it hard to get truly excited about it. Much like Gore and Ohms there's nothing new on it. I think they get away with a little more murder than most because Chino's voice is so unique. But the last three records have been very comfortable, safe. |Don't get me wrong there's some cool bits here and there but for me anyway it's another 6/10. Good, not great.

I'm already sick of it as the rest of the house has it on all the time.
Wouldn't call Moreno's voice unique at all. He's just doing a mashup of HR from Bad Brains and Robert Smith.

I'd say Madonna & her manager are raging as they're finally drawing serious money as they were the runts of the litter at Maverick records for years before they changed management.

I've struggled with Deftones since Around the Fur but Ray shared a new single with me yesterday and I liked it so I gave the album a blast. A few very cool songs but I did have to tap out eventually. It gets too samey sounding after four or five songs, and Chino has a serious case of Björkitis. What he does, he does well, but the trick wears thin pretty quickly.

I find it much better than Gore or Ohms.

I love them but as  I said  elsewhere, feels like it was made by AI and up there with Gore as their worst, if not their actual worst. The two singles are good, I Think About You All The Time is ok, and that's it. Absolute shit, which is a shocker because Ohms was fantastic

I think that's a slightly unfair comparison, Smith doesn't have Morenos range - young Mclove's Björkitis reference is closer. And I'd consider that unique.

Massive part of the problem with Modern day Deftones, like Alice in Chains these days it's all delivered at the same pace. A gear shift every once and a while could pay dividends. Chino uses the harsh voice less and less too which makes it all seem so one dimensional.

They've definitely put out some great records since Around the Fur. White Pony and Diamond Eyes would be my own picks. I think Deftones, Saturday Night and Koi No Yokan all have interesting bits on them and are worth the time but the last three have been so middle of the road. I know Stefan doesn't tour with them anymore but are they even getting into a room together to jam? It doesn't sound like it.

Bit shocked that you like Ohms Pentagrimes. I'd file it in the same category as Gore. I gave it all the time in the world too.

Nah, the run from Urantia to This Link is Dead on Ohms is a particular favourite. First two tracks are farly meh but overall I really like it.

I've ben with them since the first album and even some of the albums that  I'm not mad about have some great songs on them. But Gore and this are the two exceptions.

Dunno what's going on with Carpenter. I know it's supposedly anxiety that stops him touring but he just seems like an absolute oddball god love him.

Ya, I enjoyed Ohms as well. Have no interest in checking this out currently but I will at some point.

Hard to know. Does seem like he smokes waaaaay too much, could've cooked himself.

Gore was woeful, found Ohms had no staying power either - Private Music feels the same - some decent ideas in there but overall poor. Koi No Yokan was the last album that I liked enough but even then it felt like they were starting to decline. Still think Saturday Night Wrist has some of the best songs overall with about 2 or so duds (they've never had a flawless album).

Looking forward to seeing them next year all the same - last time I saw them I think was 2006 in the ambassador? Would like to see them release the album that they recorded with the bassist before he passed at some point as that late 2000s Deftones era seemed the strongest to me.

I have yet to listen to this.  Record came in the post last week but my player is out of action at the minute and it came without a download code (booo).  Had my time taken up with other albums but I'll get to it an evening this week.

No interest in Gore but I love Ohms.

My Mind is a Mountain. Departing the Body. Infinite Source. I Think About You All the Time. Milk of the Madonna. Metal Dream are all quality for me. The rest are grand. While I probably preder Koi No, this is on a par imo.

Surprised that people are so mixed at best on this. Think it's their best since Koi No Yokan and probably better than Diamond Eyes too.

I don't know how much in terms of surprises a band going for thirty years can be expected to bring - I'd rather praise them for being remarkably consistent and still interesting after such a long time.

I thought it was fairly shit at first but it has grown on me a lot to the extent I'm putting it ahead of Gore at least now and maybe Diamond Eyes as well, and that's as far as it has stepped up the pecking order. I like it but that's after like 15 listens and who is going to put that sort of time in to anything now unless they're fairly dedicated.

Still think the self titled is my
favourite, while we're here. Koi No Yokan is the best of Deftones version 2.

Jesus, absolute madness. I literally just posted in pet peeves that when someone says their best since, they're usually talking shite so thanks for this.

I liken this sort of craic to people creaming themselves over Faith No Mores Sol Invictus, once the new record excitement fades it'll be filed under Not awful/Not Great

I'm on about that listens wise too, it's not getting any better. There's a few good tracks but it never soars to greatness
