Jason Roeder started posting cryptic stuff on Instagram at the end of last year. Wiped clear all his posts and then only used it to sell gear. I can't remember what the messages were but they were along the lines of "Fuck this, I'm done."

Odd because he was usually such a positive person.

Now, as of yesterday, his Instragram is a marketplace for his drum kits and some vinyl. He also posted the message below.

Not sure what the deal with Sleep is but I have heard in the past that someone involved in running their business affairs is allegedly a bit of a head-the-ball.

Shame really - he was a monster behind the kit for Sleep. He really made for linchpin where the other two were concerned in live situations.

Don't know much about Sleep, but was hoping for new Neurosis music to drop any day now and that doesn't look at all imminent.

It's a sad state of affairs regarding Jason, seems like financial concerns have forced his hand.

I had assumed we were never gonna hear from Neurosis (under that name, anyway) ever again. It all seemed fairly definitive to me - there's no Neurosis without Scott, but we can't and won't work with Scott, so this is the end.

Edit: This was never outright stated, obviously - it was just how I perceived all of that dialogue at the time.

Apparently it's Al that tends to hold back the Sleep side of things as he's a bit of an oddball.

Such a pity that Roeder's giving it up as he's a fantastic drummer. Always loved the fact he had "Front Towards Enemy" on his kit during the early Neurosis years.

I just want Neurosis stuff repressed. Souls.. to A Sun... still go for daft money on Discogs/eBay.

That was the initial impression I got of it too, and they did seem to be a band in that proper sense. However, a year or so later Steve gave an interview and when asked about Neurosis he was so non-committal either way that it implied to me they might very well release something after enough time passes. With Jason gone, I'm not so sure now. (I've just looked into it and Scott's exit was only in 2022. For some reason my mind thinks it was 8+ years ago.) Great band all the same.

He was out in 2019 but they kept it quiet for a few years to spare his family the media attention.

I'd imagine they'll continue in some form, if not under the Neurosis name then still a sumilar sounding prospect. Between them they've built such a network of collaborators over the years that there'll be no shortage of potential stand-ins for whatever role needs filling.

Ferocious drummer. Pity things have not worked out for him.

Neurosis is gone and never coming back as far as I understood it. In any form.
But yes, fucking hell represses would be most welcome , particularly of Enemy of the Sun to Times of Grace. Three records that should be kept in print forever.

Relapse are feckin great for keeping the classics in circulation (and not fleecing folks with the price)
Asfaik the band have the rights to their stuff as they were always smart business wise in that sense.
