I love how every thread has the potential to be 'controversial metal opinions'.

Skyclad stayed at it beyond the point of good taste but jesus fuck the first 2 albums are class. The first one, 'Wayward Sons of Mother Earth' is an all timer for me.

Scratchin' the head a bit now. The ones I'd normally think of immediately are already mentioned. Not metal, but adjacent I suppose. I've really gotten into the Procul Harum cover Transatlantic do on their first album. 'In Held (Twas) In I'. Very nice job of it.

Thou's Nirvana covers album is fantastic, the version without the samples anyway:

Bought the first Gates Of Ishtar album this week, there's a cover of I Wanna Be Somebody at the end which blows big time. Black/Death vocalists need to stay well clear of butchering the likes of Blackie.
Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

Funnily enough, I'm heavily biased against Thou for their cover of Soundgarden's "Fourth of July". The harsh vocals are beyond bollocks on it.

And yeah, early Skyclad are class. Up until Silent Whales of Lunar Sea at least.

The masters of the KISS cover -

Plus these'uns -

Joe Jackson

D.R.I.

Trust

Celtic Frost

Husker Du

I really like their version of Kanasa 'Carry On Wayward Son' and the tracks on 'Anthems' too, although they are pretty close to the originals, as are their S.O.D. covers, obviously.

Since I've Into The Pandemonium on this morning 🤘

I always liked Morgoths version of Darkness by Warning. Like the original too mind you.

That German Warning band are great. Pungent Stench also covered one of their songs

Deicide's cover of Black Night by Deep Purple if fairly mental

It's a kinda fun cover

I do like Thou, but I've never heard a version of that song that wasn't shit. Including Soundgarden themselves playing it live. The recorded version is perfection. I still mantain it's one of the best riffs of all time.

I will however, give Thou and The Body's version of "Terrible Lie" the nod as being on par with, if not better than, the original. That song lends itself to the heft so well. If you've not heard this brace yourself, it's brutal

This, however, is my go to metal cover version:

WHILE WE'RE STROLLING DOWN THE EEEEEL

Voivod's Die Kreuzen cover is excellent as well. which makes sense as the two bands were sort of counterparts in their respective scenes and influenced each other

Never knew Room 429 was a cover. Makes sense.

It's pretty faithful to the original as well. Copshootcop were fucking great. For anyone else who may not know the original:

On a similar note, Fear Factory's cover of Wiseblood's 0-0 (Where Evil Dwells) is excellent:

Did not know about that!Fitting timing given the recent passing of Mossiman

Sure while we're at bands of a more controversial nature being covered:

The daddy of all covers and a perfect excuse to post something from the most impressive gig Metallica ever played
