Jesus, can't believe how much I missed checking this thread on MI, despite it going quiet on Spud's front!

My Korg Triton started acting up so I picked up a Behringer DeepMind 6. Haven't done a whole pile with it so far but initial impressions are very positive.

Also splurged on a few mini pedals to fill a back-up board, which I think I'll use with my synths.

Sold all my gear bar my guitar (A Fender Jaguar HH JGS86) recently in a fit of  self loathing. Now I have to both buy and figure out how I'm going to afford everything else gear wise over the next few months.

I'm still here... lurking.

Picked up an Arturia Minilab mkII recently which is a great bit of kit. Finding it a lot easier to wrap my head around Ableton with that than when I tried after picking up the Focusrite interface. So I might dust that off and try to marry some guitar and synth lines.

Pretty quiet other than that. Starting a new job in Dec though so will see if the budget allows for something in the new year.

Latest gear I picked up was a cheap as fuck aliexpress fuzz face clone kit. It's gonna be great craic trying to put it together only for it to sound like a cats death rattle.

Like that lovely tube screamer I built, that was more like a tone dampener with added hissing and spitting.  That said I bought one of those GCI brutalist kits last week so I can finally build the fuckin pedal.  Here's hoping it doesn't end up in the spares pile like the last attempt.

I picked up the new version of Slate Drums. It's fucking amazing. I'm hoping there will be some good deals going around tomorrow. Has everyone set aside some cash?

Lads if ye saw the condition of the setup I have. Spartan as fuck. And yet I still read the gear thread and think about the things I can never have.

Edit: I also used to buy Sound On Sound until I realised that I was too poor for any of it to really apply to me. I have at least 30 issues in a box in the attic and I have read them cover to cover several times each. But I am still too poor for any of it to really apply to me.

Pity about me. I should have done it all differently.

My laptop for recording has finally bitten the bullet. Apart from not being able to flip the screen up and down due to it being sellotaped in place, now it needs to be constantly plugged in. Now half the keyboard has clapped out and it was pretty slow for a long time so picking up a new one in Harvey Norman. Only problem is I had EZ drummer and Guitar rig on the old laptop so have to get those again. Possibly even legally! I think I'll stick with Reaper as my DAW. Any recommendations for  software. Drums in particular. I think I might forgo Guitar Rig and record that stuff with my own rig.

Free drums or paid-for drums?

I've been hounding Sound Radix for a sale, and hooray it's happened. Oeksound has one too.

Thanks for setting up this forum on my suggestion - always enjoyed the gear porn on MI

Were you using EZ drummer in Reaper?  I found the step sequencer in Reaper to be the worst pain in thr hole going for writing drums quickly so use a mix of Reaper and Fruity Loops for recording and mixing.
Was considering picking up Kurt Ballou's drum sample kit in the new year because it sounds great and is fairly cheap, plenty of samples of it in use on the page https://www.roomsound.com/products/kurtballou/ - need to look more into it's compatibility with FL and Reaper but doubt it would be any issue to sort it out.

Also on your laptop, without even seeing Astfgyl's laptop I can guess it's in an identical condition and still in use.  The Third Island EP was recorded on a fuckin wreck of a laptop too, had to be plugged in all the time, loose usb ports, monitor completely broken so an external had to be used, missing keys, a half hour to boot up.  If you moved the wrong way in the room the USB cable would shift and fall out and stall the whole thing, absolutely horrific considering we were live tracking 10 minute songs off the floor.  Suprised it coped at all.

Was kinda hoping for Thomann to do a Black Friday job but no luck. Anyone spotted any Black Friday pedal deals?

Is this a thread for all musical gear or are there any objections to having a seperate thread for drum related gear ?

No objections, this is just a sort of current purchases, non specific thread - what are you looking at, what did you buy, etc.  Definitely fire up a drum specific thread because this always gets overwhelmed by us and pedals  :D

In the UK, Andertons, GuitarGuitar, GAK, Dawsons, Coda Music and PMTOnline all have online sales going at the mo.
Musicmaker have an online one on Monday and a Black Saturday sale tomorrow but dunno if that's in-store only or online as well. Savins in Limerick have a sale but nothing amazing showing up. No sign of anything special on the Waltons, Jimi's, Steamboat Music sites.
