You know what, when I get a chance this weekend I am doing a best-of deep cuts of what I have here by him, I'll upload it somewhere for ye all.  Just to reinforce the hatred

I'd say he ranges from tolerable with some of the SYL stuff mentioned, to as Burggermeister says, excruciatingly cringe inducing. Only other artist that gets the same level of skin crawling cringe out of me is system of a down

Ochoill, if you compile some playlist or something Ill give it a fair stab but its like to make me want to rope myself, if what Ive been exposed to before is anything to go off

It's the best SYL to be fair.  First proper heavy album I ever got into too but I've told that story about ten times across both here and MI.

Ten versions of Lucky Animals it is so

Ah no he has some fuckin tripe lately to be fair.  And what I dig out will hardly convert anyone to him but ye might see why I have the time for any of it at least.

SYL - City, Ocean Machine, Terria and both DT Band albums are great. Can't fault them.
The first SYL is pretty shit, but all the others are decent.
Infinity and Physicist have their moments but come across as a bit scattered.
I even have an appreciation for Punky Bruster and Ziltoid.

But everything after these has totally lost me.

I'm not usually a fan of artists going back and editing old music but I kind of wish he'd go back and edit Ziltoid so it doesn't use EZdrummer. I have nothing against drum machines, but that particular version of drumkit from hell has a horrible sounding snare and plasticy kick. Or maybe I've developed a hatred for it from spending so much time using it myself.

Hearing SYL's Detox on Headbanger's Ball when I was about 16 saved me with metal. Due to the ubiquity of nu-metal at the time, I was starting to worry the likes of Metallica, Slayer, Maiden, etc. were outliers and this is what metal was.

Sitting through 45 minutes of nu on HB one night, then the last quarter of the show was Detox, Napalm Death covering Incinerator, and Carcass' No Love Lost. A great save for my ears by all three.

City is the best thing he's ever done, I've a very soft spot for Alien, while the SYL debut is one of the most disappointing albums I've ever bought. His other stuff, I've got Ocean Machine (bought it from someone on here about 14 years ago) and it's okay, but pretty forgettable.

In my early album buying days I did buy a Steve Vai box set, and Sex & Religion was included. I've kept it for the comedic value alone

My only issue with Ziltoid is the skits/intros in character. Fun the first time around but distracting afterwards. For the second one he released a 'clean' version without all that and I'd love to hear a similar version of the first album, the music itself is mighty.
