Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Wild God

Stuck on a landfill indie playlist the other night while having a drink. I absolutely hated that stuff at the time but wouldn't you know, now it just sounds nostalgic. Every song sounds like it belongs on an episode of The Inbetweeners.

Aphex Twin - Drukqs

Quoting this one because it has both responses. There's a definite whiff of cheap afx off Kid A and at times they almost achieved the same smell but yes it's the Kid version.

Maybe Kid A as a title referenced that in a way. Probably not. Now it does though.

Kid Aphex Twin it is so

I love Kid A as well btw I think it is just a fantastic album as well although not as good as Druqks for me personally

Isn't Drukqs just one of the most fantastic albums ever

Yeah, so varied and sonically fresh after even 25 years. I can see why people didn't get it upon release. He was years ahead as usual.

Re :Kid A was the first release that Thom embraced his love aphex Twin and square pusher upon hearing Freeman Hardy & Willis Acid on a drive at night through Cornwall which profoundly affected him.

Funnily enough when I was listening to Kid A there were several moments where I thought it sounded kind of like cheap Aphex Twin. Like they were going for the sound, but had nowhere near the depth of knowledge about synths and programming that he does. They're great songwriters though so it still works of course.

Also, I've never listened to Sonic Youth at all. What's the best of it? Think I'll try a tune or 2 on youtube and see what happens

Edit: It's actually pretty decent. I just went for the youtube mix rather than any album and I've liked all of the seven or eight tunes so far. It sort of reminds me of The Cure in a way but it's not really that similar either. Cool. Looking forward to going through a few albums.

I have to wonder why they hate the sound of a drumkit so much though

Working my way through the Cramps discography today because I hadn't listened to them in forever. Such a fun band. "Smell of Female" is my favourite.

They're insanely good. I used to spend many's a weekend night listening to them with the ex...
I must put them back on my playlist again...
Look Mom No Head! is their only album I have on physical. It's brilliant...

That's a great record - probably too far ahead of its time and suffered the cruel death of being influential from a distance of decades.

"Shutout" is my favourite track on that album. It sounds like a Joy Division mixed with "Lodger"-era Bowie.

Totally, absolute beaut of an album. Pretty sure Bowie covered one of the songs.

Ya, unreal album. Virus do a class cover of Shutout on Oblivion Clock.

Yeah the Virus cover is class, Bowie did Nite Flights.

Plus.."The Electrician". Some tune.

Magazine: Real Life

I only know of them from the Buzzcocks connection and the Ministry cover, but this is pretty good. A mixed bag of styles, I couldn't pin it to any particular genre.

The Cure in Marley Park
Unreal gig. Horrible place to get out of though !
