Fugazi - In On the Kill Taker

This band seriously never released a bad album. Ian MacKaye is a really underrated guitar player, his right hand is ferocious! Love his vocals too, I think they're way better than Jeff's, although he's good too.

Fugazi were all mean players. Their style was always loose, on the verge of collapse, but intricate and really catchy.

The intro to "Blueprint" is one of the most atmospheric pieces of music I can think of, and it's only a few notes.

Fuck it, 13 Songs is 40 minutes, will still make bed before midnight.

Repeater is the only one of theirs I could get into, but it's a personal favourite. Is there one in particular that I should give another chance to?

Defo 13 Songs, it's my favourite of theirs (even ahead of Repeater).

I'm of the opinion that "Suggestion" is their best song too.

The Argument is not much other a half hour - easy to digest.

That was a fun day. I remember myself and my mates walking in to the RDS and bumping in to a couple of older Celbridgians we knew. One of them was completely out of his tits on drink and drugs and the other dude trying to persuade us to help him get the gimpy one to the hospital.  At 13 I didn't drink and myself and my mates were like, eh... nah! Good luck with that. Had a blast at the gig while the other lads spent the day in A&E

Wait, Mudhoney didn't play either. Did they? I think I'd remember that.

Mudhoney did indeed play, and were band of the day for me. Soundgarden were so bad at, it was heartbreaking.

Those Sunstroke gigs were great, the first one was my first "big" gig, Faith No More were incredible. Very jealous of that poster Maggot

Went on a major Fugazi binge before Xmas,as I'm trying to grab all the albums on vinyl to replace the battered tape and cd copies. I've gone back to Red Medicine a lot, it's the only one I didn't really get the first time around, and of course now I can't get enough of it.  The whole Dischord scene around them is such a treasure trove as well , just read the Swiz book a while back and I'm on a deep dive.

Also been on a mad NoMeansNo binge lately, "Sex Mad" is being reissued this month. Another incredible one of a kind band, and like Fugazi they were another band that kinda changed things for me in my mid teens when I started become a little more interested in punk and hardcore over metal.

edit@ oop, found it, never mind

Red Medicine is my favourite of theirs. The playing on it is fucking astounding.

Cheers lads, I'll try those and see how I get on.

That's so weird. Maybe I went out for food and missed them. I have no memory of seeing Mudhoney  :o

Nomeansno are mighty. Such a unique band. I have The People's Choice on CD, I must lash it on.

If Repeater is your favourite then 13 Songs is the one I'd give a go to next. It's probably most similar.

Tad - God's Balls

Only had time to listen to it twice so far but it's also mighty. Definitely a similar level to 8 Way Santa. Funnily enough the woman got in the car last night when I had it playing, listened for about 10secs and then turned it off.

"You don't want to listen to Tad?"
"No. Tad sounds upset."

Right then...

I nabbed both of those earlier and which one did I stick on for the bus journey into town? Yep, Repeater again.

Anyway, I'll give them a go now.

Edit: Listening to 13 Songs at the moment, yep - pretty damn good.

Next edit: Listening to Red Medicine, there's a big difference between the two albums. Not sure what to make of this, it sounds very disjointed and thrown together on first listen. Kinda sounds like Sonic Youth.

Yet another edit: I gave First Demo a spin on the way home from the pub. Very decent, though obviously relatively basic in quality.

The fan journey for Fugazi can be a little weird. I feel like most people start with 13 Songs and Repeater and love them, and then are disappointed none of the other albums sound like that. It means being a little disappointed by all the other albums on first listen, then letting them grow on you, then loving them.

I've had Repeater on for the last couple of days a few times too, always a savage album.  Must be something in the air making us all think of it at the same time.  Never listened to Red Medicine but also this thread has reminded me to listen to Tad - a band I have been told to try a thousand times and never have.  Going to flip a coin now and do one of them here for a walk.

*It was Red Medicine and it is lethal.  Repeater is out of rotation for the weekend now
