Who are the big names in the Irish metal scene both past and current? I want to start learning about the scene more and get to know some of the bands that made it big for themselves both nationally and internationally. Recommendations would be great thanks :]

Well there's Primordial off the top of everyone's heads. There haven't really been many big Irish metal acts at all really but there's loads of class stuff out there, just in the small to medium bracket.

Do Therapy? count? Probably not depending on how one sees things

I think this fella's having a bit of a laugh!

Maybe. It's not unheard of.

I'd always start with the presumption of innocence but if it is actually a lad ripping, then he would need to do a lot better going forward because it wouldn't be funny beyond "I got you     "

No lol genuinely interested I don't know much about the Irish metal scene it's obviously very underground so posting questions here is probably my best way of finding info :D

I haven't heard them yet but I think I've seen an ad for them coming to Dolans in Limerick. Any upcoming bands you think might be big or have a good future? :]

A few old timers making a racket at this next month...
(shameless self promotion 😝)

I guess Gamma Bomb are big enough these days? At least going by Spotify streaming numbers, also they are playing Dublin soon. Cruachan are the other biggy.

Mine is just a list, maybe not 'big' bands internationally so;

Old bands:

Moral Crusade (thrash)
Putrefy (death metal)
Stereo Nasty (Heavy metal)
Zom (death metal)
Terminus (Heavy metal)
10 ton Slug (sludge)
Abbadon Incarnate (death metal)
Malthusian (death metal)

+

Zealot Cult (death metal)

Not one mention of Mama's Boys yet.... Disappointing!

When Abaddon Incarnate and Geasa released albums on Seasons of Mist I though we were heading for the big time!

Didn't Primordial have something on Misanthropy? I seem to remember Scobes working for them for a while too.
