Savage.  The absolute joy of discovery in a find like that for him.  I also used to rip MP3 CDs for my discman.  At one point for holidays I put a rake of Metal Hammer and Terrorizer CDs onto a few, great for shuffling through for new stuff, I lost my little notes sheet or inlay for them on a holiday in Egypt one year though and I was fucked those discs are long gone now.

I completely nerded out on mine and printed CD labels with the albums listed with their track numbers in brackets.

Haha, that's a fucking class story. The joy of discovery feels more real when you have to dig through the stuff too.

I started college with a (cassette) Walkman. Finished with a MiniDisc recorder. The joy of manually typing in all the track info on a tiny screen with no keyboard. Fun times.

Not so much a thought, as an amusing story. Amusing to me anyway.

So my young fella was having a dive through my old CDs the other week and found my old Philips Discman tucked away at the back of one of the shelves and he gets curious about this strange looking device. How it works? Why I needed it?

Anyway! The next day he arrives home with a pack of AA batteries and fires it up. 30+ years gathering dust and it still works perfectly. Then he spots  the MP3 function on it.

"What's this for?".
"Well! That's for playing MP3 CDs. I would rip and burn a whole bunch of albums onto one CD and play them all from one disc rather than carry around loads of CDs. Handy when on the move, like."
So I pulled out one of those massive CD storage bags... 150 or 160 cd holder. Full of burned MP3 CDs from the mid to late 90's.

He looks at his phone. Then looks at me, then at the Discman, all my CDs and this bag of hundreds more albums. The young fellas mind is absolutely blown clean outta his head trying to fathom how, why, when...

Anyways, again!
This morning we're all heading off for a family holiday. At the airport going through baggage check and get asked if there are any liquids or electronic devices in the bags. I said no. Young fella pipes up, "Eh! The Discman". Turns out he's brought it along plus a small pouch with a bunch of CDs and MP3 CDs to keep him occupied while away.

Well! The baggage checker was floored to see a Discman being pulled out of a bag. Picks it up, calls to a few other older heads working there, "Here! Check out what this Lad has with him." All equally amazed to see one cross their scanners after at least 2 decades. They even tried to explain to younger bemused staff what it was.

Young Lad has had his headphones on half the day checking out loads of new (old) stuff. Funny how shit just seems to come around full circle every once in a while.

I was doing a scavenger hunt in a park recently and one of the items on it was a CD discman player. I said I don't have one (in Canada anyway), but I do have a Sony Cassette walkman in the car? Same kind of reaction, people agog, astonished to see this thing. A small crowd gathers from rival teams to look at this ancient artifact. Some kids are astonished when I take the tape out of it to show them (Phil Collins - No Jacket Required, because I'm true kvlt). And then the bastard adjudicator wouldn't even count it!

Chewy is the most underrated cunt alive. When Piggy died, we all thought Voivod would die with him. He not only brought the Piggy sound back, but he also brought the Chewy age, which is magnificent and deranged like Piggy, but also totally Voivod and totally Chewy. He doesn't get anywhere near enough credit for keeping a great band alive but also making his own mark while being authentic to the original sound of the (very unique) band too. Top man.

Absolutely re: Chewy. Must delve deeper into his era but as I said elsewhere Post Society is incredible.

Haven't listened to Martyr in about 20 years. Had a few mates that were bang into them.

I have one of the new albums, the name escapes me right now, but it's a ripper. I think it's fair to say, as has been mentioned, that Chewy has really brought his own touch to proceedings while keeping the spirit of Voivod intact. I must fire that CD in the car; I haven't put it on in ages.

Relapse are reissuing the three Martyr albums next month, nice to finally pick them up for a normal price, they're mad money online at the moment

Metal postie has put in a serious shift this week. On Monday he dropped off Current 93- Imperium LP. On Thursday he delivered Harvestman- In A Dark Tongue DLP. Today, as if he hadn't already spoiled me enough, he left a couple of New Model Army CDs in the post box.

Yeah he was great the other night in Limerick.  Just full of joy, absolutely letting off these animal riffs, spot on playing.

Absolutely agree with all of that. I was at Roadburn the first time they played it with him, and they did two sets - one of them in a smaller venue it was the first time they played a song written with him ( don't ask me what it was, maybe Target Earth? I think Snake had to read it off a sheet as he'd just finished lyrics that afternoon). You could see how nervous they were about doing it. When they played it, everyone in the room was gobsmacked because it was 100% Voivod,and that was the actual moment where it was like "yes, this is the right guy". Amazing moment to have witnessed.

Chewy has done wonders for them. The Wake might be the best Voivod album.
