Doubledoppelganger this evening,  duuuude.

Earlier there was a news item about Dezi Freeman- mental "sovereign citizen" eejit who killed two cops and was on the run for the past seven months until being shot dead yesterday- and they were talking to his nephew. The nephew was a smelly rocker and had a Venom- Black Metal tshirt on. I nearly threw the horns at the telly, but only nearly.

Then, a few minutes ago, I was flicking around and just happened to catch an ad for a show that will be on later about heavy metal, focusing on the moral panic in the 80s. Could be fun  8)

Edit. It's Into The Void something something something, about a metal bands from Iran called Confess, who end up arrested by Islamic State. Cuntish.

That was the worst episode of that series.

I didn't realise it was a series. Fucked if I stay up late for another episode, though. Their story is dark and fucked up, but sadly their music sucks. Whatcanyoudosure.

Robert Fripp shared this extract from Geezer Butler's autobiography yesterday (so I guess at least a few of ye know it already):

Quote"A breakthough came in May 1969, when I saw King Crimson at Mothers club. As part of their set, they played a version of "Mars," from Gustav Holst's Planets suite. I was dumbfounded, couldn't believe what I was hearing. The following day, I went out and bought The Planets on LP, and I couldn't get enough of "Mars, the Bringer of War". I'd never had much of an interest in classical music, but this was angrier and more menacing than most rock music I'd ever heard.
At our next rehearsal, I was playing the main part, the so-called tritone, on bass, when Tony started playing a tritone riff (in medieval times, the tritone, because of its sinister, foreboding sound, was known as diabolus in musica, or "the devil in music"). That song would eventually become "Black Sabbath.""

I'm reading that at the moment. To my shame, I'd never made the connection but when it's pointed out it's ridiculously obvious (like the Sweet Home Alabama/The Four Horsemen) thing).

Funny you post that. I have been listening to a classical station in the truck in work lately and today,  for the second time recently,  Holst's Jupiter was played and I thought how cool it was. Might have to grab a CD of his Planet Suite. I'll give Mars a bash later.

Ps. There's a huge riff/ section in Jupiter that I know from somewhere... has it just come to me... is it Back To The Future... or City Slickers???

At the risk of outing myself as massive nerd once again on here, it sounds like the soundtrack to Dragon Quest VIII  ;D

I'm sure it's been used a lot, but that's not where I know it from.

New Kids On The Block covered it?

Some nutter's taken it on himself to rank the available recordings of the suite, might be worth a look if you're planning on picking up a recording:

No, that's not where I know it from. Something 80s or 90s I think.

Jupiter can be heard on a Simpsons episode 'Excuse Me While I Miss The Sky' pretty sure they've used Mars as well.
