As mentioned in the thread, it has been coming. The massive bands just aren't there any more, due most likely to streaming and access to so much. It's an awful line up though. I wonder if there's a place even for something a bit heavier in the big 3 day format like that. Would 200 tiny to mid size bands appeal to enough people if it was put together?

You dont need 200 small/mid sized bands for a good fest tbh.You just need a bit of variety, like a handful of bands you want to see is all you want at a massive fest imo.You spend most of your time drinking and talking shite,if there was dozens of bands you really wanted to see, your head would be melted running around the place.A mix of craic and a quality band every few hours would do me over the course of a weekend.

Bloodstock looks way better anyway

I see the Prodigy are playing Hellfest. They stick out awkwardly. I mean I like the Prodigy and all but are they a metal act??.

Think they played Download a couple of times.

Bottom line, not a metal act but could sort of see the appeal here and there.

Busted however is the one that's still blowing my mind.

Priody also headlined Sonisphere as well, they had Maiden and Metallica the other days.

They would argue Download isnt a 'metal' festival as such more 'alternative' whatever the hell that means.

On the download forums, the kids are quite happy with Busted https://forums.downloadfestival.co.uk/topic/16882-busted/#comment-817134

One guy was hoping for McFly too but its hard to tell sarcasm online

Quote from: Pain Medicine on January 30, 2024, 04:28:43 PMI think we will probably see more of this in future as Reading and Leeds is no longer an alternative rock festival. I think headliners like Muse, Foo Fighters, Green Day and more stuff like Pendulum, Electric Callboy and Baby Metal will become the norm.

Reading was always a whatever way the wind blew at the given time, started as a Jazz gathering.

By no means bigging them up by any stretch but Electric Callboy or Babymetal are hardly leftfield choices for that festival.

Green Day and the like can headline stadiums and them in particular were obviously achievable striking they are at Isle of White whilst a recent support band of theirs in Fall Out lads takes top billing at Donington, perhaps they don't want their headliner elsewhere in the same tour run I suppose.

Bloodstock itself have veered towards maybe not exactly a Download lite I dunno maybe about 10 or so years ago Within Temptation headlined and a few snarky comments about them not belonging there on announcement despite them being a sort of big deal when they done one of the first ones granted musically they'd shifted since but in contrast Rob Zombie seemed to be more positive when was at Download every other year at the time.

Busted and Mr Bungle on the same bill. What a time to be alive.

I saw the Prodigy at Download in 2006 and it was the best time I have ever seen them. I only went to Download that once in 06 and even back then as a teenager it didn't feel like a metal festival. Wacken is the same hasn't been a proper metal festival for years the line-up is always full of shite.

Be great if someone could get Mr Bungle over here for a show if they are in England this summer.

Was at Download once in 2009 for the Faith No More reunion but the amount of spastics lighting tents on fire made the last day unbearable. Never again

You probably won't get any closer than this

Trey Spruance as well. The man did the guitar on their later stuff, Faith No More 'King for a day' and this class Secret Chiefs 3 tune
