Quote from: Carnage on January 20, 2023, 04:17:04 PMAre BC Rich guitars not shite, though? A mate of mine had one for a while and thought it was the worst piece of shit he ever played, ended up giving it away.

I don't play myself so haven't got a clue.

Yes I had one. Worst thing I've ever owned. I actually brought it outside and smashed it one day when I was locked drunk ha.

I presume it was some cheap piece of shit though if you brought it outside and smashed it. I've a Mockingbird and it's fuckin savage.

There was a good few years where they mostly seemed to be peddling cheap/entry level guitars, looking on thomann they must have had a bit of a change in operation recently.

Newer ones look pretty class but I wish they weren't so 'modern', pointy headstock, active pickups etc.

If they had a classic mockingbird with traditional Gibson-esque headstock and passive pickups I'd be all over it.

Granted it was a cheap one. Think it was around 300 or something like that.
It was a warlock too and I just remember it being horrible to play, parts falling off it and stuff.

'Twas a Warlock yer man had too, he got it around 30 years ago. Wouldn't stay in tune, no matter what he did with it.

Ah sure, tuning is for pussies. If it goes a bit awry just turn the volume up. That's the real metal way.

There are many different series/lines of B.C. Rich guitars, from cheap shit to expensive stuff, I'm a bit surprised people do not realize/understand it. If you have a 300E Warlock and a 6000E Warlock, it should be clear they are not the same, even if both are B.C. Rich Warlocks. Perhaps the company should have done the numbering system like ESP LTD did, so people would know if something is numbered as 10 - it is of lower quality, if it was numbered as 1000 - higher quality.
I could talk about B.C. Rich and guitars in general for ages, and it is a bit difficult to say as much as possible in as less words as possible to not end up writing an essay.
Someone raised a question on how much the Chuck Stealths used to go for....well, that was in the past, now is now. Those Stealths cost more to buy second hand right now than what they were selling for as new. And while we are on topic of Chuck Stealths, A USA made one is 7000 Dollars, so compare that to the the price of a USA Stranger Things Warlock that started the debate. The ST Warlock has a Kahler bridge that is fucking 600 Euros on Thomann by itself. So, what are we talking about actually?
The prices of custom USA made guitars are through the roof now, take a look at Jackson, etc for example, it is not just an issue of B.C. Rich being too dear. I could join the club in saying that is insane and I'd never pay that money for something like that, but it is what it is at this time and age.
On someone saying you could never have bought a quality guitar for cheaper than right now is also a thing of the past. Prices have crept up considerably in the last 2 years and the general quality have started going down the drain when all the companies moved most of their production from awesome Korean factories to Indonesia even before covid. Jackson or LTD level that were 800E as new some years ago are 400 more at the moment. And add the fact that Indonesian manufactured guitars are still not on the level Korean made ones were. You were able to take an Ibanez guitar of practically any price level and have good frets, very playable, decent guitar. That is a thing of the past too.
So, I'd say the golden age of quality/price ratio has passed.
To revert back to the ST Warlocks, no, guitar collectors will not be buying these to put them next to their 59 LP. They'll be busy cork sniffing and would rather be killed on sight than having such a pointy abomination in their collection  :)

I knew BC Rich had high end ranges, just back when I was interested in them that meant around a grand and a half, not five or seven grand.

Yeah....things change, and it is usually never for the better. And to point it out again, it is the same with all the manufacturers at the moment.
I will never buy a new USA custom B.C. Rich/Jackson or whatever.....hell, I'll probably never buy a used one either. A nice Japanese, or even Korean one is more than good enough(and even these are not as good of a deal as they used to be).
Probably the best guitar I've ever had was an USA made Ironbird from second half of 80's. I've bought it for 700E and sold it for the same amount a bit later when I needed money to get furniture for the apartment(some 6-7 years ago). That was the approximate going price for them at the time. If I've held on to it, the value would be at least 3000 now, probably even more.

I bought a single cut warlock(new) for about 600 quid about 17 years ago..it is the best guitar I own..fixed bridge thick neck...baritone strings..invader pickup in the bridge..any recording I do is on that guitar..never goes out of tune..it is an animal

Wasn't talking about guitar officionados hanging it up next to their 59 les Paul..meant the ballbag investment banker hanging it next to his 59 les Paul , Bruce Springsteen guitar and vinyl copy of Fleetwood mac

Yeah, 2000's B.C. Riches that were not the Bronze/Platinum series were amazing guitars....amazing!! They even had some neckthrough Made in China series, maybe Deluxe, can not remember correctly that were good enough quality for a pro use.

I picked up one of the Korean Chuck Stealth models years ago in a trade. It's a decent guitar, definitely. Their brand image has suffered from selling so much budget shite, which is a shame, but I suppose it paid the bills.
