Katatonia- dance of December souls
Deicide - Deicide
Dead Congregation - Graves of the Archangels

Honourable mention to Carnivore - ST

Mine still stand but could probably also interchange any of them with Infernal Majesty - None Shall Defy and Ulver - Bergtatt and Epicus Doomicus. I'll keep WFAD in there even though I probably listen to The Strength to Drean more these days.

If we're doing Honorable mentions -And seeing as this has become the "name five albums from each decade that are vaguely metal related" thread we probably are  - then I can't believe I left out Forest of Equilibrium

How about by century? I'll go first:

1800s

Beethoven - Deafened: Music to Make Your Ears Bleed
Wagner - Incorrigible Bigotry: Pure Wagner
Tchaikovsky - Cannon Blast Beats
Paganini - Stradivari Shredder
Mussorgsky - Modest Up Your Ass

I've been trying to whittle my multi decade list to purely 5. It's damn near impossible but also shows that the stuff that got me into metal is still deemed the best there is (in my eyes). I've been revisiting some of these recently for the first time in a while and it's been like having a class new album all over again. Nothing past 1992 on the list either.

Metallica - Ride The Lightning
Megadeth - So Far... So Good... So What!
COC - Blind
Suicidal Tendencies - How Will I Laugh Tomorrow
Alice In Chains - Dirt

No room for obscure stuff when limited to 5 only

88-93 is where the real gold is for me (with some notable exceptions) and, yeah, it's that mid-late teen era too. I could live without anything from 94 on, to be honest, but there were still some real gems in 93.

This is impossible...but here's an attempt

1. Def Leppard - Hysteria
2: Cannibal Corpse: The Bleeding
3: Cryptopsy: None So Vile
4: Riot: Thundersteel
5: Ozzy - Ultimate Sin

Well that's... different!

At the moment and in no particular order:

Rust in Peace
Master of Puppets
Speak English or Die
Slaughter of the Soul
Beneath the Remains

I can get behind all of those except S.O.D. Probably substitute Blood Fire Death in there. Actually I'd drop Slaughter for Reign In Blood too.

Will do a top 4 as these haven't changed in years but no.5 changes all the time.

1. Pantera - GST
2. Order from Chaos - Stillbirth Machine
3. Funeral Mist - Salvation
4. DSO - Si Monvmentvm

Oul Phil would be mad proud to be topping that more' leftfield ' list but yeah GST is a monster. Salvation also is savage. Don't know the other two.

He would probably have Salavtion on his list as well. Maybe I would give the 5th spot to Legion. A top 10 or 20 would be slightly easier to pick than 5.

Easiest way it seems to do it was pick my favourite black, death, thrash etc

Mercyful Fate - Melissa
Ulver - Bergtatt
Autopsy - Mental Funeral
His Hero Is Gone - Monuments To Thieves
Slayer - Show No Mercy
