I'd like to know the re-offending stats on all the cases ruled by Nolan or any other judge that follows these types of decisions. We all know these people aren't deterred by prison in the first place. But surely minimum sentencing for some of these cases are totally justified?! I think the main thing people want is a sense of justice - that doesn't seem to play out some of the time.

McEntee's increase in maximum sentences last year was utterly pointless. There should absolutely be minimum sentences brought in.

On the deportation side of things, isn't he given 2 weeks to deport himself?! Hardly good enough for the right of centre folks, they would argue probably for a mandatory leg chained event leading up to the plane  but there's a case to be said for some type of proper system in place to deal with these.

Ya, the current model of voluntarily deporting themselves is a major issue and needs serious monitoring. Leg-chained up to the plane is perfectly acceptable. Scumbag should be treated accordingly.

Shooting in a shopping centre in Carlow one dead and 7 injured including a 9 year old child.

Edit: Being reported now that the gunman was a local lad who was killed, may have also had a bomb and the child only has minor injuries. No mention of the others that were injured.

The man at the centre of the Fairgreen Shopping Centre shooting incident in Carlow last night was on bail for serious firearms offences.

[He] was before the courts last year when he was charged with offences associated with an assault rifle he bought on the dark web.

The Heckler and Koch G3 rifle was seized along with a Remington M1911 handgun and multiple types of ammunition.

He had since been charged with possession of other guns and with ammunition possession.

Gardaí have confirmed he was killed by his own firearm. The firearm found in Carlow yesterday is believed by gardaí to have been legally held.

I don't know the full details of how gun ownership works in Ireland, but you'd think with that number of firearm offenses he'd have had his license/certificate revoked along with any legally held licensed guns.

You won't be granted a licence or a renewal if you have any violent criminal offences which includes what he was going to court for. My guess is they either didn't get around to taking his gun off him yet or maybe it doesn't get taken until he is sentenced.

Over 5 million views, thanks to their equally fanatic counterparts in the UK and US, and the video isn't even related to the event. Multiple retweets simply assume the shooter was a Muslim immigrant, which was certainly part of the intent in the implicit call for a civil war.
