I like PL but they are all over the place when it comes to consistency. Handful of decent songs on most albums and that's it. Never really "hit it out of the park". From 'One Second' up to their 2005 self titled there's probably one good album of songs in there. Stuck to the formula from 'In Requiem' onwards.

Host is terrible. I have to disagree with you that they never "hit it out of the park" They most certainly did in the early to mid nineties.
They have released some good albums since then, particularly in recent years, but nothing I would consider a classic.

As far as I know, this is not a planned PL release - this will more than likely be Nick & Greg's lockdown project. I guess its in the vibe of Host though, but who knows.

But yes - that Host gig in Nancy's was a stinker.  As for the album Host - its grand, i never really go back to it, but its certainly not as bad as I thought it was when it came out.  There's a few really great tunes on it. But its better than Believe in Nothing for sure (their low point for sure). World Pretending is a great track though.

I must be the only one here who enjoyed that Nancy's gig. Mind you, I was absolutely buckled. I think it was because there was a fair bit played off One Second, which was a much stronger album IMO. Host was just One Second-lite.

Track has gone up, could've been pulled from Host without being as good or having the genuine vibe of that record. Sounds too contrived.

Wasnt too gone on host or that track they released but one second is a great album if you like Depeche Mode.

I think that track is better than anything Paradise Lost released in the last few years lol

Was thinking the same I think it's a cool tune

I think they've a decent standard but everything they do these days is contrived, including all the side projects, the last few PL albums get played five times then sit on the shelf.

Having given this track a few spins all it's done is made me go back to Host which is far superior, Nick was in a bad place back then, and that's where they were musically, all the elements aligned for that one. This sounds like Nuclear Blast asked them could they knock something together along those lines over the lockdowns.

I absolutely loved host when it came out but now I think it's a hape of shit whenever I revisit it. This'll likely turn out the same but fuck is it better than pl for the last I dunno how many albums. Contrived is the word indeed I agree with you there. It's like the going back to the oul metal didn't do the trick so they're going back to the other thing in a roundabout way. Having only heard it twice though it seems like a cool tune and I hope the album is decent

I deeply love Paradise Lost but in general, bar a particular handful of albums, any time I revisit others I go "ah fuck no not that one too, how did I ever enjoy this".  So sure look since we all love a list let's get to it.

1. Draconian Times
2. Gothic
3. Live at the BBC
4. Icon
5. Shades of God
6. Host
7. One Second
8. all of the rest of them I don't think I have it in me

Gimme a few and I'll edit in my list. Where's mclove for the lists

I liked the last three quite a lot. Had absolutely no time for anything between One Second and A Plague Within

I'm allergic to lists. Shades of God, Gothic and Lost Paradise are what I would reach for. Icon and Draconian Times are alright but a bit middling to my ear. Don't know the rest bar the odd tune.

Kinda the same here. Really like the last few albums.
I do like some of the stuff they did between OS and APW. But as far as the full albums go... not great at all.
