yeah this is sounding really good. as for the choral vocals, i think less is more.they were a bit overkill on the first album.

Really loving what im hearing after first listen.

New album sounds great from Krzysztof's Batushka not that other shite.

How many bands has this happened to recently? Off the top of my head I can think of

Entombed/Entombed AD
Venom/Venom Inc

Just makes it more confusing trying to figure out which one is the "real" band

  • Ghost
    Immortal
    Gorgoroth

also come to mind!

Could you lump Morbid Angel in there?

Hes had to change his bandcamp page name, anyone interested in the album links below.

I think there's no way for these types of band splits to end well.  I understand the financial and reputational aspect in abandoning a name you have established and built up,  but a clean break leaves the water clear.  The Batushka fan base are probably going to check out whatever you do and it leaves the artist with some integrity intact. Rather than trying to claim rights to the name,  let your creativity render the old name irrelevant. Just my thoughts on it.

A clean break is good when everyone involved carries equal weight in the band and they all agree to go their own way. It's not so fun when one of the people wants to keep the band running. There's going to be  genuine fans who actually follow the band and are aware of any news, but I'm sure the majority of people don't follow bands so if they see a new album or gig, they'll assume it's the same band they knew previously. Makes things a lot more difficult for the person who didn't get to keep the band name.

For example,  Krzysztof's Batushka is up on bandcamp with the artist name "Krzysztof Drabikowsk" under the URL "sphieratz.bandcamp.com". It'd be hard to know it's Batushka unless you've been following the story. Although it's currently the top metal album on bandcamp, so maybe people are more in the loop than what I would expect!

Partly off topic but worth looking into what has been going on with Fear Factory post-Digimortal for some more examples of this kind of thing going to absolute shit.  Apparently issues with past members and legal rights to the name are why they ended up with shifting members since 2009-ish, in and out of court, current album delayed because of it etc, still going on 10 years later.  As well as other awful form if any sessions musicians are to be believed, and members arguing online too - it would put you off listening to the bands at all when this sort of thing happens openly.

Exactly.  It becomes a farce and the credibility of the band gets sullied.  Maybe some people enjoy the drama and are happy to have two Batushkas, Entombeds, Venoms etc but from a creative and artistic point of view I'd see it as being,  maybe not as practical,  but certainly artistically stronger to cut and run.  Start up a new project, if you feel the need to mention ex- Batushka members in the press release then fine, even though there is something paradoxical about a band built up on anonymity getting caught up in this type of situation.

Cut and run would seem the best thing to do for the reasons you give... but a lot of these things have presumably got more to do with not wanting the other party to use the name than with particularly wanting to use it yourself. If I can't have it, no one can! A clean break for oneself won't sort that part out.

There should be a kind of King Solomon style solution, where they suggest cutting the name in two and taking half each; whichever one agrees to it loses everything. (Of all the batshit crazy bible stories, this has always struck me as one of the fucking weirdest... what kind of "wisdom" is a presumption of one woman being a fucking psycho? Anyway, I digress... although, batshit... batushit... batushkit... I think I may have a way out here!)

If you're going down that route you could probably get four Batushkas out of Bart alone.
