Malokarpatan - Krupinske Ohne
Voidceremony - Entropic...

Still waiting on the Eternal Champion, Transilvania and Omegavortex LPs to arrive so there could be another contender in there too.

Black Magick SS - Rainbow Nights

the first thing that has popped in to my head

On reflection I've probably enjoyed more music this year than the last 5 years combined. Rediscovered the hunger, so to speak. So here's a few more underground black metal albums I enjoyed these last few strange months.

https://youtu.be/7Bwp4XS-gkk
Cenotaphe - Monte Verita.
Melodic, rousing BM from France

https://youtu.be/3HPA8n_QtA8
Spectral Chain - Crossing Spiritual Dimensions.
Keyboard laden, eerie, haunting, atmospheric BM from Greece.

https://youtu.be/bf_cZAKzWrU
Old Sorcery - Sorrowcrown
Majestic, etherial Finnish BM with signicant ambient elements in the 90s Norse style.

https://youtu.be/7_h4f9DuhaM
Omitir - Ode
Portuguese gear. Warm, restrained, sophisticated. Parts of it reminiscent of later Burzum.

https://youtu.be/s0gcJvkgIGo
Wartodd - Pagan Pride
Raw BM in the classic Polish/Temple of the Fullmoon style.

Didn't realise that Cenotaphe was from 2020. Incredible album.

Bedsore and Voidceremony also honourable mentions.

The Sweven album definitely up there but an album that is almost a companion piece but with a more preferable balance of Death over Prog ,to me anyway,..

Lantern - Dimensions
Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

Lantern - Dimensions

Good call. I had been following the tracks as they were released up to a point, and then forgot to check out the whole album! A band I enjoy a lot, since they remind me of how it felt hearing Morbid Angel for the first time.

Ulcerate, Perdition Temple and Skeletal Remains for me.

Of Feather And Bone
Mork
Terror
Terror demo
That new Gjendød
Probably more stuff to add. Three of mine are eps but still excellent releases

Yeah the full album is fantatsic, album of the year for me has to be Napalm, been giving Uada - Djinn alot of time among others. But Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism just hits the spot.

Three standouts for me are

Thou and Emma Ruth Rundle - May Our Chambers Be Full

Napalm Death - Throes Of Joy In The Jaws Of Defeatism

Urfaust - Teufelsgeist
Never heard of this gang but they are interesting.

Of Feather and Bone
Skeletal Remains
Lik

Other excellent releases this year.

Malokarpatan's Krupinske Ohne is hands down the best of the year for me.

Got a good spin of Dool's Summerlands and Ulver's Flowers of Evil too.

Love Malokarpatan but just couldn't get into it, a completely different sound (imo) that didn't do much for me. Same for Napalm Death. Just didn't do anything for me either though I am a long time fan.

Like you, I thought this was a great year for black metal. I must check out some of these bands you mention, as I'm only familiar with Omitir  and Cenotaphe, which, as you say, are good.
