It's literally a recruitment drive, so pretty much is some sort of pep rally. The polemic created by men generally seen as pathetic and weak, perfectly exemplified here by...Ted Cruz, for better or worse, will work in favour of the military. "Liberals" more and more represent such a significant portion of people with adequate education for tactical positions that they absolutely can no longer pass up the need to appeal to them. And since most of those spending their energy rallying to ratio YouTube videos probably wouldn't even be useful as grunts, the army aren't losing out in real terms on any front.

How can you say they won't be losing out when they forego all the things that have made good soldiers since the dawn of time (check out the Chinese army video) in favour of ticking boxes for race and non-traditional upbringings etc etc?

The arrogance behind the statement you made insinuating that anyone downvoting the video is scarcely good enough to be a grunt (try being a grunt in Russian recruit training) is unbelievable. I don't think anyone is saying anything negative about certain types of people joining the Army. It is how effective these Army personnel are on the battle field. No matter how painfully "inclusive" you want everything to be, there needs to be a modicum of common sense applied when recruiting for certain professions.

Yes. For tactical positions you need well-educated people more and more unlikely to be impressed by videos of shaved heads pulling on leather boots. The US is headed, and this is Putin who has said it recently, for absolute military dominance. That is something which is related less and less to physical battlefields and more and more to the ability to design and operate complex tactical machines. It's no surprise that all of the cackling comments imagine war to still be predominantly a whites-of-the-eyes thing. That image will remain, and always attract people with good foot soldier qualities. But the army needs much, much more than that in today's world. We can't expect an idiot like Ted Cruz to understand that of course, but we don't have to be like Ted Cruz.

I'm not even saying there's nothing to critique about the video, but there's no critique that I can see, just sad men cackling away. Anyway, listen, the US army, even if I don't like the fact, know what they're about strategically speaking. And it could even be the case that they went out of their way to bait idiots like Cruz, since it will work in their favour reaching their target audience with these particular ads.
