Gigs for one would just not be the same without drinking. When I drink I usually go all out but I wouldn't be drinking everyday. I haven't been to a gig since the end of April and I only drank 3 times since then which was just pints in the local. I was never one for sitting at home on my own drinking when I didn't have plans later in the day because I usually get fed up of that after 2 cans.

I never bothered my hole doing any of that dry January shite or going off the beer for a month or whatever but I am also lucky that I don't suffer with bad with hangovers.

I end up losing most Sundays anyway because if I am not out somewhere I will stay up to watch the UFC which can go on until 6am.

The only time I get proper hangovers is when I drink wine which is grand because I don't like wine and the last few times I did drink it I ended up in trouble so I haven't touched it in over a decade with the exception of buckfast. On top of that Guinness is the only beer / stout in Ireland that I actually like the taste of. I use to love Coors, Canadian and Heineken when I lived in Canada but those all taste like piss in Ireland.

For anyone actually struggling to get off the beer weed is a great substitute and a lot less harmful for you in every aspect.

I can only be arsed having a drink when I actually feel like it, and usually with food, be it just a bag of crisps even. The thought of going to a pub nowadays just to drink doesn't appeal to me at all.

I'm currently trying to fix up an old Nad tape deck which hadn't seen daylight in a couple of decades. I love stripping down stuff like this, fettling, cleaning and reassembling. It's deeply satisfying. Just waiting on a new drive belt to arrive to see if it was all a big fucking waste of time, though

Meself and Astfgyl went halves years ago on a Tascam 4 track tape recorder and it is still mostly functional, just needs a big strip down and clean like this too.  I am mad to do it.  Must get it off him and do the same.  It had a nice and unusual compression on it and was fairly clean when it was in working order, I am curious about what various instruments sound like on it now that I have a clue what I am doing

Also disinterested nowadays in over boozing . You can say it's age but it's also just boring to feel like shite for no particular reason. Been there , bought the t shirt etc.  Chalk it down to maturity and being better,  end of.

I'm sinking my fourth and last can here then off to bed.....changed times. But feeling half decent in the morning is the payback.
Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

I got poisoned and slept rough on Friday night. Mate was back from Oz (the prison TV show one) and offered me the couch in his bird's mother's gaff but I've never met her and I knew I'd be dying after the sheer level of pints so I opted to go out alone and kip in his car which was parked outside.

Might have gotten away with it a decade ago, but not now.....

I miss the old days

Quote from: Eoin McLove on June 04, 2026, 12:44:25 PMI might end up sounding like a smug cunt here, but that's not my intention. I just saw a post of my own from 2018 about being hungover and realised how nice it is to be off the booze. I gave up drinking 3 years ago and never looked back. I can't say I've noticed massive health benefits as such, but not having a write off Sunday because I stayed up half the night on Saturday is a blessing. I'm sure it's doing my body good too, but that I can see  The ravages of time are undoing whatever good sobriety is doing perhaps, but still! Recommended for anyone who is thinking of giving up. And zero beers are the business, by the way. At a gig or in the pub with friends or whatever, having that taste of beer without the inconvenient side effects is a winner. You feel like you're having the real experience of being in the pub which you can't really replicate with a glass of Coke. Great on the weekend to unwind as well, because the habit is well enough ingrained- I get to still enjoy that weekend feeling without being mouldy the next day. Anyway, if you're thinking of doing it but feel like you'll be missing out somehow by not being gimped at the weekend, give a zero beer a try. Might be the job!

Edit.  And fuck Taskmaster!

Kids gone to bed, wife watching some shite, work day done, I have 2 maybe 3 beers and sit listening to physical format music (usually metal). Then go out for a small joint and hit the sack. It's a formula that works for me.

I tried the zero stuff before. You are missing the first little kick, the first sense of relaxation that makes alcohol so alluring. Fair play if it does the job for you and I've heard many others say similar but it's pure empty for me.

I drink a couple of beers nearly every night so tried the non drinking due to the constant health alarm bells you are reading about everything lifestyle related in recent years and the subsequent guilt/anxiety it was causing me. I did about 2 weeks of dry January once and fucking hell it was savage grim. I'm definitely some class of an alcoholic but the thoughts of giving up beer only to live to a bitter, raging, decrepit but teetotal 90 years old is fucking depressing

Yeah, phuck Zero anything

Zero hero, baby! But each to their own  8)

Wee girl off to a movie night/pj party, me and the wee lad on a metal then horror fix!

I physically cant do it any more. This month between a couple of birthdays and special event kinda things (ie actually leaving my house to see friends/bands) was unexpectedly boozy - nothing major, we're talking like 2 maybe 3 pints any time I was out - and to be honest I feel like absolute shit.

I know I was talking about not drinking there earlier but will also stress regularly because currently I'm a few cans and pinners in with the headphones on and a blanket of dog and cats and it is a real simple pleasure.  Cheers

Likewise, having said "I can't do it", I bought a can on the way home which I'm now drinking while watching a mvoie cos jesus the heat.

I can already feel tha hangover though.

I was at a friend's months mind earlier, had a few pints after. Home now and just opened a bottle of Malbec and have Moving Pictures on the headphones. A day of contrasts for sure but I'm on the good side of it now.

Couldn't consider going dry in this form.

Edit: I forgot - contacts out, specs on. A relief after a long day.
