Metal Church - Dead To Rights 7.5/10
Going up in my estimation with repeat spins, it's amazing how fresh and energised the band sound still having been on the go since the mid eighties but then again they do have three new (but old!) guys on board.

Nile - Ithyphalic 8/10
Anointing my phallus with what some would consider their weakest effort and maybe it is but that's still a cut above most DM bands for me.

Xorsist - Abberations 7.5/10
The everflowing stream of bands clamouring over that Dismember sized hole in the market shows no sign of drying up anytime soon though this is the Swede's third outing now so they pretty much have it nailed. The Gardenian sounding acoustic pieces are a nice touch but basically this is two fingers up to innovation and horns aloft to the traditionalists. Suits me fine.

Alas - Absolute Purity 7/10
Eric Rutan's female fronted one and done project from 2001, a hit and miss affair but still worth a listen occasionally.

Embalmer - There Was Blood Everywhere 8/10
The nasty surprise on the back of the C-90 that the Alas was on from an old tape trading pal. Like when the old creep/legend from the video store cagely slips you one from under the counter..Here ya are son, let me know how you get on with that.

Morphosis - Malicious Malfiguration 8/10
As if to reprimand me further for asking for a copy of that wussy Alas shit (it really wasn't), this was nailed on after the Embalmer EP. A punishing Side B indeed.

Eulogy - Dismal/The Essence  - more obscure Floridian metal of death following on from Monstrosity yesterday, probaby one of the best bands from that scene. Somewhere between Altars/Blessed era MA, a hint of Frost style experimental eeriness, and a sort of manicness that reminds me of the early Gothenburg thing (even though they probably predate that)

Molested - Blod-Draum - the opposite of easy listening death metal, given the production is "Reek of Putrefaction" level mud unfortunately but the stuff that shines through is great, will be revisiting the discography for the afternoon. is this the only death metal album to ever feature a mouth harp?

Atrocity - Hallucinations - absolute classic. Has this been reissued? Must pick up a physical copy again if so.

Makes sense, they definitely take a lot of influence from their predecessors - you can hear Molested, Thou Shalt Suffer, Old Funeral/Amputated, Darkthrone etc all over the album..pretty sure I've seen one of them in a Molested shirt as well.
