Pestilence - Malleus Malificarum 9.5/10
Broke out this beast from 1988, Pestilence right on the razor's edge between Thrash and Death, this has everything you could want in that style, even the lyrics were a cut above what most bands were writing at that time. Or now, Aeon.

Slayer - Seasons In the Abyss 8.5/10
Ah the novelty of the fold out inlay with this cassette back in the day. Now, over thirty years later it's in two pieces. Tape still plays like a dream though.

Moondark - The Abysmal Womb 8/10
Formed in 1993 ,the Swedes finally got their shit together to ooze forth this creeping, crawling slab of Doom Death in 2024. Bolthrower meets Runemagick? Instant thumbs up for that crunching guitar tone alone.

Gojira - Fortitude 7.5/10
It still amuses me how Gojira sneaked under my defences all those years ago.  Hate their childishly scrawled logo. Don't even like their name. Or their mass appeal. Or their artwork. Or merch. Or their look, much. But I'll still be picking up the successor to this one to add to the discography this Summer.

Aeon - God Ends Here  6/10
Meat and potatoes DM from Sweden with some pretty insipid anti-Christian lyrics. Don't know why I bought this on vinyl, it's not one of Girardi's better artworks (See the Clairvoyance effort from last year).

Monstrosity - Screams From Beneath The Surface 5/10
I can't get my head around this one at all. It sounds nothing like the brutish Monstrosity of old, apart from the lead work maybe. I'm hearing Behemoth playing some latter day Kreatorish thrash in places. And fuck, it's loooong. Not even thinking it's a grower as it's only been growing more tedious with every spin. An average 5 for the time being anyway. And a big dollop of disappointment.

Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

Veneum - Trance Of Death

Militarie Gun- Life Under The Gun. Fun stuff. It sounds to me like a mix of 90s pop punk, positive hardcore and the jangly playing of the likes of The Stone Roses. Cult in ain't but cool it is  8)

Species - Changelings
Summoning - With Doom We Come

Pretty much had the Summoning on repeat yesterday.

Pissgrave - malignant worthlessness
Black Witchery/Conqueror - Hellstorm of evil vengeance

Two slabs of utter hatred and disgust, what more could ya want!

Good band. They're quite similar to Drug Church who also play a mix of 90's alt-rock and pop punk. Great lyrics too.
