I've only heard bits and pieces of Scorn post-Vae Solis, I presume that that was an anomaly and the dub/ambient style was more typical?

Entombed - Clandestine 10/10
By a quirk of fate I had this on while reading some Lovecraft, great combo, not just lyrically but also the artwork had me glancing up from the pages more than once. Can't separate it from the debut, both superlative Death Metal.

Sacrifice - Soldiers of Misfortune 8.5/10
Just short of the heady heights of the first two, certainly vocally it's a more reined in affair but still, hard as nails thrash from the Canadians.

Wildhunt - Alethiea 8/10
First pick up of the year from me ,the Austrian prog/power/thrash troupe back after just ten years(!) with their second full length. Lots of spins for this over January, very enjoyable, theirs is a good balance of the traditional Germanic sound with a more unorthodox, sophisticated edge.

Malformed - Confinement of Flesh 7.5/10
Ugly old school Finnish Death Metal out on Dark Descent last year so quality virtually guaranteed, Morbid Angel meets Convulse maybe? Whatever, it's a pretty killer debut and easily digestible at just over half an hour.

Phobocosm - Gateway 7.5/10
If I had of picked this up last year instead of last week it would have made my Top 50 list being, as it is, just a couple of desecrated angels short of a full blown Immolation record.

Refusal - Venomous Human Concept 7/10
Finnish Death Metal with an abrasive hard-core edge in the vein of Rotten Sound or Misery Index. Not a preferred style for me but an angry and addictive listen, again at not much over half an hour.
Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

Children of Bodom - Follow the Reaper
Vulture - Sentinels
Kreator - Violent Revolution

The follow up to that "Colossus" had 1 or 2 tracks with the "Vae Solis" style, but that was it. From "Evanescence" on it was the Dub/Illbient sound. The newer stuff is alot more heavy on the Dub/Industrial beats/sounds.

I must give it a listen. I liked Lull, I don't know if he's still working under that name though.

Seeing them live in Dorans in the 00s with MB put me off then a bit. The singer's stage presence was a bit too effeminate with limp wristed mic holding  I must bite the bullet and pick up the CDs at some stage because they actually sounded decent when I've checked them out in more recent years.

I was reminded of that album out of the blue and stuck it on for the first time in many years. Very cool stuff. It then put me in the mood for Dolorian, who I didn't know back when I first heard Morgion.

Animalize - Verminateur (traditional heavy metal from Dying Victims and sung in French. Good stuff)
Venger - Times of Legend
Immolation - Failures of Gods
Be'lakor - Coherence
Behemoth - Grom

3 Inches of Blood - Fire Up the Blades; Here Waits Thy Doom

Whispers - Yom-Ma-Lok
Shattered Realm - Broken Ties... Spoken Lies
Foundation - When the Smoke Clears

He is, put a release out during the summer, Mick had a reel up on Instagram last week putting the final touches to a Lull release to be sent off, so still going strong.

I've gotten back into hardcore in a big way in recent months. It's the perfect music for when you have 2 young kids and you can't be fucked listening to anything complex!

That Revolution Calling line-up is savage. Earth Crisis, Hope Conspiracy, and Blood for Blood are playing too!
