Vision of Disorder - Imprint

Led Zeppelin - Houses Of The Holy
Play the Academy July 13th

Spurred on by listening to the redux of Foundations of Burden, I decided to give Heartless another go (still does nothing to excite me) and also finally give Mind Burns Alive a proper listen (nearly at the end now... it has similarly done very little to excite me, except maybe this final track With Disease).

Nothing's grabbed me since Foundations either, haven't listened to the remix but not sure it's really necessary.

Enjoyed their set opening for Baroness last year but yeah, albums have been flat, in a similar boat to Elder for me who have also forgotten how to write a riff.

Species - Changelings 8/10
New on 20 Buck Spin, these Polish upstarts are seemingly intent on reeking merry havoc on my end of year lists with their sophomore album, an ambitious take on Cynic(al), Athiest(ic) thrash that reminds me a bit of last year's Sovereign debut...impressive.

Graceless - Icons Of Flesh 8/10
New one from the Dutch Old School Death Metallers is a portal back to those early Grave, Asphyx and Entombed albums, nothing to tax the brain here except a filthy bout of headbanging maybe, the way it was meant to be. Good stuff.

Cruel Force - The Rise Of Satanic Might 8/10
2010 debut from the malevolent Black Thrashing Germans, sits nicely alongside your early Bathorys, Venoms and Sodoms. They even managed to hijack Varg's main 'War' riff in the midst of the mayhem too. Cheeky buggers.

Animalize - Verminateur 7/10
Released earlier this year from France's answer to Enforcer, their second album and it's bright and breezy stuff, light hearted and super catchy, pretty damn enjoyable too. Vocals are sung in French so no clue what's going on there but I doubt they're trading profundities with Deathspell ..

In The Woods - Otra 6/10
We're at the point now when 'new' ITW have released more albums than the much deified early incarnations of the band and of course this is leagues away from Yearning The Seeds Of A New Dimension et al but I'm still on board, just about. The majority of this plays out at  gently lulling tempos with the occasional nod to their more savage roots , it's not bad at all but in light of what went before you can't help but feel it's all very....middle aged. Still yearning then.

Quantum Void - Escaping Reality 5/10
2023 debut from these Polish thrashers, reminds me a bit of that Schizophrenia lot that supported Dark Angel  this year, songs are extremely competent and well executed without ever threatening to really stick in the mind or challenge any boundaries. I'd check a second one out though as there's a decent band here just lacking a bit of identity in their early stages
Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

Voivod all day since the gigs were announced!

Checked out a couple of new (to me) albums today based on YT recommendations:

Psychonaut - Unfold the God Man
Gaupa - Myriad

Enjoyed both a lot, will def be checking out more from both.

Hallucivore- Shrouded in Exogaian Petrichor
Terror Corpse - Ash Eclipses Flesh
The Jesus and Mary Chain - Honey's Dead
