Darkthrone - Total Death
Darkthrone - Plaguewielder

These albums don't reach the heights of the unholy trinity but you can't really go wrong with any of the albums from Darkthrone's first decade.

Last six listened to today and last night:

Glaciation – Sur les falaises de marbe (totally missed this when it came out, but I've been playing it almost every day for the past couple of months: a mixture of a lot of the French black-ish metal bands many of us like)

Aara – Triade III: Nyx (playing this for the first time in a long time, having overdone it when I bought it a couple of years ago)

Armagedda – Svindeldjup Ättestup (I just can't seem to go a day without playing this lately: what a comeback album it was!)

Afsky – Faellesskab (hot off the presses, good stuff, but perhaps not quite as good as the last couple by them)

Malokarpatan – Krupinské Ohne (what a fucking album this is, up there with anything that has come out over the past decade, especially the last track)

Wolvennest – Procession (good new stuff, not quite up there with some of their earlier stuff [especially Void], but well worth repeated listens)

Bar Malokarpatan , unfamiliar with all of these, threw on AAra out of curiosity, sounds excellent. Will be checking out the rest of these, nice one.

Your are in for a treat with some of those! The new one by Aara is also very good, their earlier stuff less so. The second Afsky one is their best. Armagedda probably the most under-rated Swedish BM band, with each album fairly different for the others.

Hesperia - Fra Li Month Sibillini 8.5/10
Raging Italian Black Metal with an abundance of Folkish/Pastoral/Medieval interludes, strictly nightside listening this one, its been keeping me company in the wee hours at work lately. Best thing from Hammerheart this year for my money.

Capilla Ardiente - Solve et Coagula 8/10
Debut EP from 2009, Chilean Epic Doom exuding pathos and despondency (yet an uplifting listen at the same time) from these Procession boys. Really have to catch up with their latest album.

Cult Of Fire - Triumverate 7.5/10
2012 debut from the Czechs playing in the vein of their countrymen Root, Master's Hammer and with echoes of early Emperor throughout. The 20:11 EP tacked onto this isn't as strong and lessens the impact somewhat of the first six album tracks.

Unleashed - Fire Upon Your Lands 6/10
Back off the shelf for a quick reassessment ahead of a huge cull down to a shortlist for end of year  honours, nah, still not raising my hammer too high for this one despite some rave reviews elsewhere.

Overkill - Necroshine 6/10
Well down the pecking order of the Overkill discography, Necroshine is more stomp and groove than their famous blue collar thrash. An occasional outing and dusting down for this one but there are more misses than hits here.

Invocator - Weave The Apocalypse 5/10
A striking, if perplexing, cover on the Dane's second album but beyond that it's pretty one dimensional, plod-along, early 90's groove thrash. This was the soundtrack to Monday night's West Ham - Brentford game. Dreary.
Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

Motörhead- Iron Fist.
